yesterday was a lovely day. i went to the dentist and had no cavities, and discussed piercings with a late-middle-aged dental hygienist. then i went to school, bummed about for a little, and then went to see holly. we did a couple things, and then we left on a glorious adventure into new jersey. we picked up emily, who we were driving to the newark airport. not a bad drive, altogether. by the time that was done, it was about four or five. and next time, holly me love, we're going to see if the route to take goes right past my house, cause then you can just pick me up and i won't have to drive home at 1:30 am. not that that was your fault. my own damn fault.
so then we drove off directly into the sunset (no, really, it was impossible to see anything because the sun was setting right in front of us. torturous. ugh.) and so we drove and listened to my weirdo music and sang and talked a bit. and then we started getting lost. so we called up holly's dad, who has this amazing computer program called microsoft streets and trips, and we all decided to just go ahead to the restaurant (an interesting little japanese place in the middle of bumblefuck, NJ. i wondered who on earth would open a japanese restaurant there, and how it was surviving, but it turned out to have a buffet. and in new jersey, that is the one and only key to success.) so we went, and weren't impressed with its appearance, but we sat down and decided (after another phone conference) to test it out while neil was on his way. the food was actually not bad, even quite good. and then neil got there, and ordered a bunch of food, which i greatly enjoyed. i even tried edamame...and liked them. crazy, i know. and also a pickled radish or turnip or something, which wasn't that bad but i don't know if i'd quite order it.
dinner was wonderful, mainly because holly's dad is the nicest and friendliest man i've ever met. and i also spent a lot of dinner just admiring the two of them. they have a really beautiful relationship. made me miss my dad. :) he just absolutely adores her, and she him. makes me smile. i heard all about home life, and her sister and brother (whose job as a professional huge dork i want to usurp), and fun stories. oh, and neil is also one of the smartest people i've ever met, and going to bryn mawr, that's saying something. he had all this interesting trivia, including some stuff about queer history and etymology of slang.
and then we visited the little cottage where he's staying, which was lovely. and holly and i had been eagerly looking skyward from the car, since the sky was so free of light pollution. we talked some more...i really love you, holly. she made hot apple cider, and we explored the house, which was a lovely old thing, all made of wood with fireplaces you couldn't make fires in, and a back stairway and a gorgeous yard. holly really wanted to stay the night, but i unfortunately had to get home before dawn so my mom could take the car. grr. we drove home, got a bit lost again because decimal points are supposed to be at the foot of the number, not floating randomly at the waist, but we got home all right. and then i bummed about a bit more, and life was good. drove home, collapsed into bed.
and here i am.
going to a concert tonight with holly. i'm having a very holly week, and it makes me happy. also, got to get my passport picture taken so i can go to france.
and now, to shower.
mmm.
