Lots of musings on teevee

Okay, so I've been hitting up the Netflix waaaay too much lately.  I think it will be really good for me when the 15th hits and I need to take a break from it financially.  For a month or two.  And maybe just to to streaming only for awhile. It takes me forever to watch and return dvds.

Monk

I like the show, but I don't love it, you know?  I'm invested enough I want to keep watching, but if I start an ep and miss the middle because I checked the mail downstairs or did some dishes?  I don't feel like I missed anything.  I like the character Monk, but I've never been the biggest fan of awkward moments tv, so when there's an extended scene where Monk's doing something and everyone around him is cringing, I feel bad.  I don't find it funny.  Usually.

I do think, however, that it's a great performance, and Tony Shalhoub deserves every award he got for the role.  It's so detailed and wonderfully intricate... I think he's fantastic.  To the surprise of no one, one of my favorite episodes is the one that Enrico Colantoni guest starred in.  I liked the insight into how Monk was before he lost Trudy, and I liked the chemistry between EC and TS.  I don't know if they worked so well together because maybe they're friends from Galaxy Quest, but I'd love to see them in another movie together.

Also?  I really like Natalie and Julie better than Sharona and Benji.  I also don't mind Randy being a bit of a doofus, but sometimes, it's more than a bit much.

Missing

Okay, so I started watching this odd show called Missing, or 1-800-Missing, depending on whether you watched it in the US or Canada, I think.  It's an okay show.  It's about a psychic who dreams about missing people and now works for the FBI.  I initially watched it for one episode, White Whale, because it guest starred, who else?  Enrico Colantoni.  He was creepy.

But anyway, I've started watching from the beginning, and I have thoughts.  I like it, but not really for the plots.  They're kinda meh.  But the characters, I like.  I like Jess, and I like Brooke... I adore Sunny.  I even like Coyle, although he's played by Dean McDermott and I have moments of looking at him and thinking, "dude, you're married to Tori Spelling!"

I like the sort of circle of friends that's building between Jess, Brooke, and Sunny.  However, I do know that for seasons 2 and 3 they move the setting from Indy to DC, and lose Brooke and Sunny.  So... I may ditch the show in seasons 2 and 3.

And speaking of being set in Indianapolis... I get why other people bitch about shows set in their city or state.  I don't live in Indy, but I am from Indiana.  In a few episodes they were in their office in Indy, and said something about going to a crime scene or location in Terre Haute or Bloomington.  Saying "down the street" and then BAM!  They're there in the nick of time.  Both of those towns are a few hours away from Indy.  Just saying.  Indiana isn't a HUGE state, but it's not tiny, either.

And there's a Flashpoint connection beyond just EC guest starring.  It's shot in Canada, but I'm not sure where, exactly.  I don't think it's Toronto.  But it amused me because episode 12 guest starred STEPHANIE MORGANSTERN!  She's one of the co-creators and executive producers of Flashpoint. ;)  She did a really good job.  And the little boy in her episode was the same kid who later played Isaac in "The Farm" episode, who's also the brother of the actor playing Dean Parker.  And then episode 13 guest starred EC, with his daughter being played by the battered wife in "Asking for Flowers".  And then episode 14 guest starred Rachel Skarsten, who plays Natalie Braddock.  =)

Man vs. Food

I get going around the country to 'pig out spots', but the challenges?  Is it a guy thing to want to eat 4 lbs of pancakes or 12 egg omlettes with 3 lbs of hashbrowns to break a record?  I mean, what's the enjoyment if you're forcing yourself to eat it??

Although the host?  Adam?  Totally adorable.  And what a flirt!  Did you know he has a masters degree in drama from YALE??  Wow.  I thought he was just fun guy, but he's apparently also a serious actor. ;)  And the CSI: Miami parody they did when in Sarasota?  Hilarious.  I tried to find it on youtube to post, but it's not there.  The whole episode, or the episode cut into two parts, but I didn't want to post the whole thing.
