I am in a band called Discs of Fury. We played our first gig in august and it was astoundingly well-received.
I really like the people we have playing with us.
Our keyboardist and primary songwriter is my best friend.
Our guitarist is another one of my best friends.
Our bassist is hysterical and one of the most talented musicians I know.
Our new drummer cancelled two paying gigs to rehearse with us.
This is the first project I've been a part of which was 100% on my own terms.
I have played a major part in the writing of every song.
I love the music we perform.
Singing the vocal parts we write is challenging and fun.
I leave every rehearsal feeling energized and happy no matter how much shit I have to worry about or how shitty my day was.
Everyone in the band is a master of their instrument.
The songs have a broad enough appeal that everyone who attended our first show got a copy of the EP.
The band's style is fresh; over-the-top 2006 arena rock with a strong 60s pop influence. The songs switch back and forth between straight-ahead rockers for the boys, playful pop songs and ballads for the girls, and wicked Yes-style progressive rock compositions, which will appeal to other musicians.
Three of the five people in the band (me, the keyboardist/songwriter and the drummer) are completely dedicated to seeing the project through as far as it can go.
In a nutshell, I finally have the musical project I've always dreamed about ever since I first started singing. I had almost resigned myself to a life performing music I had no emotional connection to because it paid the bills, but now I actually have a real band with a real chance of making a career out of playing music I love. Life is sweet.
