I think I've finally had it with OS X.
It's a great operating system, and Apple is a great hardware company. But I've spent the last several weeks trying to improve performance on my MBP and I've just hit a wall. All the features Apple has piled on top of successive versions of OS X just suck up too much disk space.
I'm also kind of frustrated with trying to find open source software for OS X. There is a lot of good stuff out there, but just as Linux is the ignored third OS in the commercial market, OS X seems to take third place for releases of open source stuff. I figure if I have to run X11 to run a bunch of the software I need because there aren't native Carbon ports (the GIMP chiefly), I might as well just run an open source OS to start with.
So I'm getting ready to install Ubuntu on my Macbook Pro. We'll see how long this lasts, but I'm tired enough of OS X eating up my whole hard drive that I'm willing to give it a shot.
