One of the things I really love about Oxford, believe it or not, is the late-night tute-sheet crisis. I know the actual process isn't much fun, but I love walking through the college when there's nobody about when I've finished. Nuffield lawn is slightly spooky in the middle of the night-there're no lights, and it looks as if it goes on past the trees forever. And then there was the first day of snow in Oxford, when I was working in the library until 3am, and when I came down, the snow was about as thick as it's been, and I was the first person to walk in it.
Don't get me wrong-I hate losing sleep to get this or that piece of work in on time. But sometimes, it does have its advantages.
