Gonna have to give me a time period, mate. Tends to vary, depending on the decade.

Perhaps I should leave the selection to your discretion. As I am unfamiliar with which decades you are referring to, I am disinclined to make an uninformed choice.

Between 1853 and 2004. Take your pick.

Then perhaps one from each century. 1880. 1930. 2004.

I'd say gossip for the first, but that really applies to them all in the long run. Gossip had more of a profound purpose back in the day, though. Now it's all about getting your laughs, when back in my day it was the difference between sinking in the social ranks and climbing your way up to a better seat at the table and quite literally so, too. Hmm. Well, I'll go with what I know. Torturing people with railroad spikes, attending parties and plays, and helping the helpless.

Yeah, 'cause that's a plan. Just go and tell all of my house-mates that you're a psychopath on the mend. There go my hopes to try and ease them gently into the truth.

...this is one of your housemates? Oh, bugger.

He's the one that's letting me stay here, after--[after Kirk's exit]--after he became their acting captain.

Oh. Right then. One of those not of this world types, then? Explains the Lord of the Rings theme with the ears and those unfortunate eyebrows.

Sorry.

He's alien. Goes by the name of Spock.

[The actual apology throws her off guard.] It's--look, it's fine. He's a sensible kinda guy. I'm sure he'll listen to the explanation.

Because the honest explanation is one the sensible are used to hearing.

In this twisted place? Yes. Besides, Spock's a strange kind of sensible. Not to mention the theoretical head of this household.

[A quiet sigh, then:] Bones hasn't noticed the window, yet. I brought him a pet fish, just in case. Y'know. A preemptive apology.

He the sort who's into denying the existence of vampires or can I skip over easing him into the Undead English portion of the Spike equation?

...a fish. I could make a crack about fish and envelopes, but out of fondness for Red, I'll pass.

He's been...told about the whole vampire thing. He's kind of a--Oh God am I really saying this?--cold fish. Hard to figure out where I stand with him.

[A heavy sigh. That, plus the trepidation about the cold fish comment is all that second subject gets.]

One of those. Oh, this'll be interesting, to say the least.

But there's gotta be something to him. I mean...Uhura--[and she stops because this is bordering on hypocrisy. But she's pretty much said enough.]
