So, I just saw Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. Overall, I really liked it. The sci-fi theme was what drew me in but I liked the ‘30s kinda feel as well. It was a little cheesy in places but it I think it was sorta intended to have that cheesy pulp novel feel.
Heh - check out my new icon! (i couldn't help myself :-)
One of the only other things that bothered me was the repetitiveness of some the dialogue. (for example) After the tenth time Polly mentions she only has 2 shots left - WE GET IT - you’re leading up to something - NOW STOP. Ahem. Polly did get on my nerves in places (and when she practically *let* the guy takes the vial/tube things!!) but I’m glad she and Joe ended up together in the end. They did the bickering very well :-D
I absolutely loved Jude Law in this film - he was *perfect* for the role. The ending was a bit un-satisfying as we aren’t reunited again with most of the characters (I *so* wanted Franky to see Polly & Joe together) and the little ‘details’ of the plot aren’t quite wrapped up (to my liking anyway). There were a couple of scenes that made me laugh out loud (i.e., when Polly ‘accidentally’ uses up one of her shots). Most of all, the movie had a very beautiful look to it.
So yeah, I liked it - I'd watch it again.
