ok, so my friend alice, the british volunteer, got married about a week ago to a nigerian.  being as alice was born here, this isn't all that shocking, and provided me not only my first chance to attend a traditional wedding, but also my first chance to wear traditional dress.  though, to be fair, it wasn't so much traditional dress as a vaguely western styled dress made out of traditional fabric, but hey.  baby steps.

pictures here.

this was also a chance for me to get some pictures of some of my friends, so if you're curious, check it out.

in work news, i have a new project i'm working on (as well as the conference) that i'm quite excited about.  for those who haven't gotten the full story yet, here are my two main responsibilities for the next year:

1. conference coordinator for the 3rd Africa Conference on Sexual Health and Rights.  the conference is scheduled for next february in abuja, and will host speakers and participants from all over the world to discuss the issues of sexual health, poverty, and accountability in Africa.  i am running it.  i am not qualified in the least.

2. curriculum development for e-FLHE (electronic - Family Life HIV/AIDS Education -- we're not allowed to call it sex ed in nigeria) project.  developing a cd/web platform for a curriculum designed to complement the approved national FLHE program.  will also function as a stand-alone, to be installed on the million laptops nigeria is getting as part of the One Laptop Per Child Initiative.  a joint project between Action Health Inc., OneWorld UK, and Butterfly Works.  if you want an example, check out the curriculum Butterfly Works developed for Uganda at www.theworldstartswithme.org.

suffice to say, i am busy, overwhelmed, and insanely excited.
and love.
