i'm home getting lunch before heading back to the training to volunteer with the rape crisis center here in anchorage, and i was looking through the anchorage daily news. there's a front page article about the trend of "sexy" halloween costumes for women which are little more than underwear.
i've noticed a lot of articles and blogs about this in the last week, and i've also noticed something missing. stats about sexual assault on halloween weekend. granted, i don't know them, and i don't have time to look them up right now, but i know that the weekend before halloween was one of our busiest at the rape crisis center back at school (second only to take back the night). amongst all this discussion of feminism and women's desire to feel sexy, and to step outside themselves for a night, i'd like to see some discussion of what implications that holds for sexual accountability and consent. so i'm asking you guys. what are your thoughts on the connection between the holiday and the increased rate of assault?
kisses!
