Title: The Ole Watering Hole
Prompt:
Everyone knows that Kirk has no problem getting into a fight, but how about a twist - Kirk is trying to behave (no fights) but while at a bar (I think post movie works best) someone is trying to provke Kirk into a fight.

He manages to keep calm, but something said sets Bones off and he beats the hell out of the man.

Kinda defending Kirk's honor, like a good BFF/boyfriend would.

Kirk is highly amused.

Jim and Bones were having a nice night on their last day of shore leave. Bones had asked him out on an actual date and that included dressing a bit nicer and acting like the good boy that both he and Bones knew lurked deep, very deep down inside him. Every other time they had tried this it had ended in disaster, ranging anywhere from sudden enemy fire to Jim putting his foot in his mouth. It had only made the two of them more determined to make this time work.

The end of the night was upon them as they were walking back towards the ship, and of course Jim spotted it. The Ole’ Watering Hole, the sight of it made Bones groan because he knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that the night was about to end with Jim getting a bloody nose or something equally heinous. The hopeful look on Jim’s face was enough to make him give in and before he knew it they were seated at the bar ordering a beer each.

“One beer Jim, then we go back to Enterprise.”

“Yeah, yeah, yeah. One beer. Got it.”

Bones rolled his eyes and waited for the drinks to come. The bar was packed and the smell of cigarette smoke clung heavily in the air, a minute had passed since they ordered and Bones suddenly had the urge to use the bathroom. He stood and straitened his clothes after telling Jim that he would be back.

The beers came while Bones was gone and Jim took to drinking his while relaxing in his seat. He heard someone settle in Bones’ empty seat and turned to see a burly looking man studying him.

“I’m sorry, that seat is taken.” Jim tried for polite.

“Now it is, yeah.”

“Sir, my friend is in the bathroom and will be wanting his seat back.”

“I suppose he’ll want his drink too?” The man lifted the frosted mug and drew it close to his face.

“That goes without saying. I would appreciate it if you would put down the drink and vacate the seat as my date will be returning.” Annoyance colored his words and he tried to mimic his Vulcan friend and not show just how angry he was getting.

He really didn’t want to get in a fight. Not because he was afraid of getting dirty, but because he didn’t want to disappoint Bones. Somehow the doctor being disappointed with him was far worse than him being angry. McCoy would go all quiet and sullen and Jim would feel guilty beyond compare.

“Date, huh? I saw you come in here with a man. You one of those…queers?”

The man said it as if it were some word that should never be spoken. Jim resisted the urge to leap at the man to see if he would flinch away from his “unnaturalness” but settled for glaring at the man pointedly. The man put the beer down and got uncomfortably close the Jim. Neither noticed when the doctor returned and had stopped a few feet away, watching the display and growing increasingly agitated.

“Tell you what. Why don’t you show me what the cocksucker mouth does for that boyfriend of yours?”

By the time Jim had processed the surprising insult, the man had been knocked down by a blue blur. Bones straddled the man and was punching him as hard as he possibly could, ignoring the pained sounds coming from the bloody lump beneath him. The doctor stood up and pulled a twenty out of his wallet and slapped it on the counter.

“C’mon Jim. Let’s get the hell out of here.”

A wide grin was blooming on Kirks’ face as he slid out of the chair and walked towards the door, stepping deliberately on the man who was still on the floor. They resumed their walk towards the ship in silence, only the sound of crickets filled the air. Finally, the captain had to speak.

“Bones, you’re my hero.”

McCoy abruptly grabbed Jim by the arm and pulled him into a deep kiss. They broke apart panting slightly and flushed in the cold night.
            “And don’t you forget it.”
