My bird, it is awesome.

So, over Christmas, I got a cage and supplies and all this stuff for a bird. I looked around for a parakeet to adopt but nobody nearby had any birds up for rescue/adoption. That's OK, just wanted to make sure before I went to petco and got one. Regardless. I got a rare parakeet "yellow on yellow", and took em home. After the first week of basically just leaving em alone, sitting around the cage and watching it, he's calmed down considerably. He's almost hand trained now, hopping on my finger and letting me carry him around. He still would prefer to hop onto the ladder I used for stick training but the lil bugger is smart and has learned quickly.

Anyway, this will be the 10-11th day I've had the bird, and he's really warming up to me. I played bird sounds to calm him down over the first week, but now I talk to him whenever I can and leave a radio on when I'm not there. I hear they like heavy metal, but since I don't want to spook him, I've put it on country western most of the time. He's been happily eating and drinking, and he looves Millet and even nibbled on an apple a bit. He'll chirp at me if I walk into another room.

The front part of the cage I have opens like a big door, and the food and water bays are just doors in this door. The other day I got some food and water dispensers that are cleaner and easier to fill and came recommended by the bird person at Petco. (they were $2, I don't think this was any kind of power play to get me to spend more money) I mention the door cause I come home, take off ym shoes, and open this door. No he doesn't fly out. He sits there, and startes at me. During the first week he'd watch whatever was on TV if it was on. Now he'll watch my computer screen intently. Which is why I am making this post.

Last night, I was playing some TF2. Lots of explosions, lots of gunfire... lots of flashy stuff on the screen. My bird hops out of his cage onto my desk, across my arm and mousepad... and perches on the front of my keyboard and watches the action...for the next hour. He chirps and squawks at the screen, but he never flys off or looks scared (the flattened feathers look), instead, between rounds, he'll walk down to my hand at the WASD keys and nibble and groom them. I was just like "...awesome, good boy" He got tired of the action eventually and without me doing anything, hopped back across my desk, gave my mouse hand some nibbles, hopped back into his open cage and got some food and water. I just sat there, jaw agape. I stopped playing TF to make some dinner. I did some cleaning, waited for stuff to cook, and when I come back... I find him perched on my keyboard again, nibbling the green rubber shortcut keys along the top of the board. I put on a movie (lol Muppet Christmas Carol) and we watched it together.
