I suppose it's time for a spring break update. Things haven't really slowed down since I got back, that is until today I suppose.
Almost immediately after I got back on Wednesday night, I called Matt and headed to his place. I hadn't seen him in months, nor had I seen his progress with the Rx-7. Seems to be coming along well. We went to Cartmill's place; his apartment complex has a pool. I had to wear a pair of trunks I haven't worn since the 7th grade, my regular ones being in Ohio. They made my ass look about 10 times as big as it is, despite the already grand proportions of my glutes. Then we got snacks and drinks, and watched a movie. On the way home Matt took me through some pretty awesome curvy roads that I didn't even know existed in Oldham County. I'll have to explore those further sometime soon.
Thursday Matt and I had planned to go to Pull-a-Part and scrounge for some car parts, but we slept too late and ended up just hanging out in his garage. We took off the power steering from the Rx-7, it weighed a ton and wasn't helping much anyway. Later on we met up with Scott and his girlfriend to try and find something to do. We wandered around Dicks sporting goods, got bored. Went to Blockbuster and tried to find a movie but couldn't decide on one. So we pretty much just called it a night.
Friday Matt and I finally were going to go to pull-a-part, but on the way to meet Matt my car died. Right at the top of a hill on North Camden. I had to coast all the way down and across the bridge before I found a good spot to stop. The problem is something electrical, although it appears the started is also somewhat fragged. I'm pulling it tomorrow and seeing what else is wrong. Hopefully nothing expensive.
After the car was towed home we finally set out for pull-a-part, and generally just wandered around. Found some nice old cars actually, although none were truly salvageable. Later on Matt invited some people over to his house for a fire and some hot dog roasting, despite a temperature in the mid-30's. The ground was so wet that we had to move the pit to a higher spot so the wood could actually burn. We got out hot dogs and some chili in a cast-iron pot that we just sat right on top of the fire. It was delicious.
The next day was moving day. For Brad anyway. I went to his apartment but he wasn't there. Found out later that he and Ben had been out getting the moving truck. Spent the next few hours moving various large pieces of furniture and shelves into the truck, then unloading them at the new house. The third roommate, Jon, was not present for the majority of the move, and we had to go back and get his stuff when he finally showed up. More on this at www.meatandnetworking.com
The food afterwards was fantastic. They had 5 lbs. of ground beef, 5 lbs. of pork and 5 lbs. of brats along with 7 lbs. of beans. I helped make the burgers while Brad and Ben seasoned and grilled them. They had a keg of Michelob Amberbock for the new move, and it was one of the tastiest beers I've ever had. Very good stuff. I also had a glass of Sam Adams Dark Lager, but it wasn't nearly as good as the Michelob. My dad called, complained that I had used my brother's car all day (remember, mine no workee) so I had to stop drinking and find my way home. I pretty much spent the rest of the evening relaxing.
Today, I had lunch with my dad at Beef O' Brady's. Seemed kinda dull, I think because Silvia was sick and dad was sad that she couldn't be there. Ah well. Later on I went to have dinner with my Grandmother at Cracker Barrel. We talked about all kinds of things, mostly about her family history and stories that I knew nothing about. It's kind of difficult to talk to her sometimes. She's an ultra-conservative bible-preaching baptist. I've neglected to express my political and religious views to her so far. She's getting up there in age, and I would hate to reveal to her that one of her two coherent grandsons is a liberal agnostic.
That's been my spring break so far. I hope to fix my car in the next couple of days, clean it out and get it ready for the autocross on Sunday. I also have to visit Kroger and talk to my manager about working at the distribution center this summer. I have to go full-time, and a $10 or $12 an hour job will be much better than $7.50. Plus I want some decent hours, I don't want to spend my nights and weekends at some restaurant while my friends go out and have fun. That's my plan for the next couple of days, after that I'm not so sure what I'll do. I'm open to ideas.
