Weston-super-Mare pier destroyed by fire

The only saving grace is that apparently nobody has been hurt. But I absolutely love piers - they're such a precious part of our seaside resorts' heritage - and this is terribly upsetting. How much worse it must be for those who work there and are now out of a job just like that. Judging from the eye-witness reports, the fire seems to be much too bad to recover from - Weston Pier looks like it will have to be demolished completely. =:(
