We don't have enough completely bonkers ideas around, so this one is welcome. The link, which would take people from Los Angeles to San Francisco in half an hour, apparently consists of capsules being shot through a tube. Yes, I know that's vague: Elon Musk, the memorably-named guy behind the idea, seems to be pretty vague about it all, too. Now okay, this is the bloke behind Tesla and SpaceX, so presumably he does know something about technology... but until he stops being all cute and actually says in detail how this would work, I'll remain doubtful. Yes, there's a lot of hype about this being utterly revolutionary... but as the BBC article says, so there was about the Segway.
