Kubica could be out for the season =:(

According to Autosport, the doctor who operated on his hand has said that he expects "one year" to be when Kubica might be back racing. That said, he also mentioned that drivers were "special people" and that he had seen motorcyclists recover from similar crashes more quickly than expected. Even so, a nine-month delay (say) would also see him out for the year.

If Kubica is indeed going to be out for the entire season, then I really can't see Renault being content to stick with Senna or Grosjean; they'll want a bigger name. I mentioned Räikkönen in my earlier post, and he's surely the best F1 driver not with a team right now... but would he do it? That's another question. But if not him, then who else is there? Gary Paffett? I'd love to see that, but I doubt it somehow.

Also on a sporting note, I did watch a few minutes of the Superbowl. (BBC1 are showing it live.) The trouble is that most people seem to talk more about the adverts than the game itself, and we don't get the ads over here, and as the game is on the BBC they don't have their own to show either. That means that at every break in play (and my goodness, American football loves breaking up play) we get studio waffle.

One thing that did strike me, though, was the lack of in-ground advertising. No sponsors' names on players' jerseys, no billboards around the perimeter of the pitch, no painted logos behind the end zones. Seen through European eyes, that's actually one of the most alien things of all!
