october on the horizon!
i'm so excited it's almost october! birthday in just 2 weeks - crazy crazy.
it's been a nice weekend. ryan and i had dinner with misha and jo on friday, and then we went to see the bishop allen concert at the middle east club in cambridge. the lead singer of bishop allen was in a movie called "mutual appreciation," which i thought was a rather slow, dull film, but the singer in it played a musician and he does a concert in the movie, too. i checked out the band after the film, and this is the first time i've had a chance to see them in concert. quite good musicians, but it was kind of weird watching the lead singer walk around the club and being like "he looks familiar...ah yes! the movie!" it's rare you see any lead film character just meandering around a crowd of maybe 100 people (and when ryan and i got there, it was only about 25 people).
anyhow - the week has been good. my freshman seminar is going quite well, my practicum, though busy, is exciting, and i'm feeling more like a young professional this year than a student - a new event. it's weird when you start feeling too old for your lifestyle...outfits i used to feel were weirdly cute i now feel almost too old to wear - it would be extremely awkward if i ran into one of my students wearing hipster-esque get-up. poot.
we played trivia this week at the bar near our house, and i think it's going to become a weekly thing. we came in 4th place, which was a bummer cuz the first 3 places got $$. a bunch of friends from class came last week - this week it will at least be me and ryan, but he's really good at trivia, and we have a good time.
yesterday i took ryan to see a sukkah and then we went to the atlantic ocean. it was only slightly chilly, but mostly a nice trip. it was the first time i'd been to the ocean in MA - the last time i saw the ocean was last year in NJ when ryan and i were on our way out to boston. I think I liked the beach in NJ better, though.
even though i'm less busy than last year, i still feel like i'm busy all the time. i've got a workshop i'm running that will be presented on 10/18, i'm running a service learning experience with my freshman seminar kids on 10/13, ryan and i are going to the voxtrot concert on 10/13, anastasiya's coming to visit the weekend of 10/20 (i'll also probably try to do a birthday shindig this weekend), daphna and murray are coming to visit the weekend after, and next weekend ryan and i are going to providence to visit sara and jesse. we would've gone this weekend, but jesse was doing a concert in madison - lucky! i'm kind of wisconsin sick (i think especially because of all the holidays), but i've been reveling in packers victories at least.
