thanksgiving break

thanksgiving break thus far has been the perfect combination of productive and enjoyable.

wednesday evening i went to a thai vegetarian thanksgiving meal with my great aunt and second cousin.  we had a very nice time, though my aunt at age 90 has trouble hearing sometimes so she kept commenting about it being noisy.  i feel like most old people do this in a crotchety sort of way, but my aunt even when voicing annoyance still sounds quite regal.  we ordered all 3 entrees between the three of us and i got to take home the pumpkin dish.  it came inside a pumpkin.  it was flippin sweet.

thursday morning i woke up all set to be productive and debating whether or not to go to my friend's for thanksgiving--he had invited me the night before and i hadn't heard from him since on it.  well, in the morning, i got an IM from another friend of mine.  do you all remember my mentioning after the regina spektor concert how i met a random dude on the subway from madison?  well, this was him!  he knew i was going to be in town and so invited me to spend thanksgiving with him, his 2 roommates, another friend of theirs, and his sister plus fiance.  The food was incredible (we had deep fried turkey and everything else from scratch mmmm), and we had nice conversation as well.  Considering I spent my thanksgiving with strangers, I felt like I was a part of their *family*.  Hopefully he and his roommates will come over in the near future, and we have plans to play board games and they'll bring dessert!  yay! (aaron, subway dude, is a baking enthusiast who actually runs his own little cake and pie operation.  his desserts are scrumptious).

so today, after having neglected doing work thus far--i wrote a 14 page paper on the self help book i had to read ("lies at the altar: the truth about great marriages"), which took me much less time than i would have thought.  So, I went and took care of laundry, too.  Now it's not even 8 and i've accomplished everything that was mandatory to complete this weekend.  So probably tonight and tomorrow I might work on some other things that really, if I like myself at all and think about how busy I'm going to be next weekend, should do even though I don't have to.  cuz i'm motivated like that.  or just a massochist.  either way.

my great aunt's other son is having a brunch at his house for he, my aunt and other cousin, his son and his wife on sunday.  i've been invited and am pretty excited about it--i haven't seen him in ages, and his son, now age 18 or 19, i haven't seen since he was 11.  it's been a long time.

i'll be flying into milwaukee on december 15, ryan will come down and we'll stay there for the weekend (and first 2 or 3 nights of channukah), and then i'll be back in madison through about january 5th.  holla!  just gotta hang on for another 3 weeks...
