Just before he was subbed in in the 71st minute against Hungary on June 6th, 2004 (guess who else had his first game that day?). He went on to become one of the most well known and, well, entertaining players we had in the last 10 years. I couldn't imagine the Mannschaft without him!
- He then went one to play some minutes in the tournament that shall not be mentioned and then came the WC 2006.
- He was voted best young player of the tournament ahead of Messi and Ronaldo
- He was the first at the age of 21 to score 16 goals for his national team and the youngest German to score 30 goals.
- He was voted into the all star team of the Euros 2008
- He got the very first red card of his career in 2006
