I hate seeing those pictures. It's so horrible seeing him in pain. I avoided tumblr as long as I could to avoid them and now, I just can't cry anymore. I'm more upset over the fact that it happened and that clearly he's in pain. Yeah, it's a shame that he won't be in these next matches, but they're games. I'm happy to hear that these next NT matches are friendlies. Even before this I was a bit worried about what they'd mean for the Euro 2012. I still can't wait to see them play, even if Basti's not going to be on the pitch. I'm just praying for his speedy recovery and that he's not going to be in any pain.

The pictures of him in pain are far worse than this one, which got to me when I first discovered it a few days ago:

Exactly. I know they're safe for Euro 2012, I know Bayern's safe for the knockout round of the CL, and I know a collarbone injury -while painful - is not the worst thing for a footballer to sustain. But dammit, I hate it when they're in pain.

*Sigh* I wish I could be emotionally distant from this kind of thing, but it's hard.

Still being new to football (well, at least being THIS engaged in it) my brain just didn't comprehend that it's not absolutely terrible and my poor friend was working overtime to calm my fears. Me too. I hate seeing people in pain in general. When someone is in tears, I just am drawn to them and want to comfort them to make them feel better. I've always been like that and so watching this, I mean, it's not a movie where it cuts to a month later and things are fine. This is real life. These are real people. I've been harassed before for caring too much about football and so that's why I was battling whether or not to stick out the game or not.

Holger getting a red card, things heating up on the pitch with tempers, I just couldn't take it but somehow I managed to watch the game. Like you, I wish I could just disengage myself from the emotional aspect, but it's just part of who I am. I'm more upset about him being in pain and knowing that he's not only cut off from playing football but also basketball.

HOWEVER... one of my favourite players from the Seattle Sounders got a broken leg at the start of the season but he's still been a big part of the team. Seeing how he has progressed through the season in rehabilitation and just being in good spirits and still with the Sounders everywhere has given me confidence about Basti's morale, which is the other thing that I am worried about.
