Pumpkin time!

In the past two weeks I've discovered cooking with pumpkin.  Like from the gourd, not the can.

So far there's been:
-pumpkin and spinach saag
-pumpkin bread (spiced quickbread... times a couple pans)
-pumpkin kibbeh
-pumpkin pie
-pumpkin chickpea banana curry
-and a tray of pumpkin cupcakes

None of it lasted very long- the bread went though a couple pans because it was that delicious after bringing some to a race weekend and it disappeared quite easily.  The cupcakes were baked right before going to see Where the Wild Things Are and didn't make it much longer- and the pie filling which was really better as pumpkin butter still got wolfed down pretty fast.

On top of that I did my first bagels from scratch, a loaf of dill bread, just stuck some pesto and lasagna in the fridge for later this weekend, hmmm... I've been in the kitchen too much lately.

I'm kind of torn on whether all the effort to prepare, bake, peel, and mush fresh pumpkin is worth all the effort versus a can for baked goods, I guess that'll be the next experiment.  What I am positively psyched on are how good home made bagels can be.  Everything bagels, fresh from the oven? SO good!

On the down side, I think Jeff is going to hide the flour and sugar from me, these kitchen adventures are not helping either of us stay anywhere near peak race fitness.  Doh.
