Ooh, I like how gritty this is, the sleazy gas station and Faith's cigarettes and the half-broken ATM machine. And the S5 Wes POV, nothing like the Sunnydale man indeed. And this:

Sex and respect were not exactly linked in Faith’s mind, and the less said about this incident the easier working together was likely to prove.

Killer.

Yes, the more I thought about that nasty ass gas station in a nothing town on I-5 the more it seemed appropriate for them and this.

And it had to be hardcore Wes because old Wes would be completely broken by Faith but he's already been deconstructed here.

I forgot how much, during S4, I wanted this pairing. It's because I knew it could be exactly like it is here, scotching and dark and confrontational, just like the two of them are by that point. This captured their dynamic in Orpheus (and whatever the one before it was) so amazingly. The way she starts out trying to own him and he turns that around on her so thoroughly. His snide little comments. And it fits in quite perfectly. Amazing, amazing piece.

Thank you so much!

They are both so deeply flawed in ways that when they first meet make them incompatible but by this point in the series make them fit eerily well.

sweet and delicious to read.

Faith shook her head as she did the same, “Fuck Wes, if I’d have known you’d be any fun, I would have done that ages ago.”

“Would that have been before or after the torturing?” he replied snidely, heading back to the car.

“Dunno. Maybe both.” Faith shrugged, climbing into the passenger seat and lighting a cigarette.
*chuckles* Love the exchange.

Adore the whole grittiness of it all.

Thanks!

I tried to make the dialogue here count since it's mostly such a solitary piece.

Thanks. I thought it was pretty unoriginal but at least appropriate.
