Fandom: A Song of Ice and Fire
Title: Sweet Poison
Pairing: Cersei/Oberyn
Word Count: 505
Rating: light R
Summary: AU in which Tywin heeded his wife's wishes in regards to their children's betrothals.

Written for hamsterwoman who requested Cerseri/Oberyn because I put the idea into her head in the first place.

She is still furious and a lesser man might be terrified of a lioness on the war path but Oberyn closes the distance between them. )

That is (unsurprisingly) awesome and surprisingly sweet!

I love that even in a somewhat-satisfactory marriage, Cersei still uses Jaime as her yardstick. I'm not saying this right, but you know what I mean -- bringing up the fact that Jaime doesn't cheat on Elia.

Thank you. When I actually went to write it I had to think of what the problems would be that would exist in the place of the current ones and it was sort of nice to have Cersei having something normal to complain about (his womanizing) which Robert shared as a vice but Oberyn was able to compensate for in a way that Robert wasn't.

And yes, of course he is her measure of virtue. He is here mirror after all. Also I was just trying to think of who WOULD be faithful to their wife in this universe and Jaime seemed a good candidate since he is all about honoring oaths and such. Plus I needed to throw a reference to their marriage in there somewhere.

In conclusion. I am so glad you liked your ficlet.

It would have been so different...

Very nicely written :D And Jaime mentioned, and yes, Cersei likes to be in control...

Very different... there would have been no revolution for one thing.

Aw, think of how nice this AU could be. Well, except for poor Lyanna, unless you mean to imply that Rhaegar could have two...

I love your dialogue in this - it's very, very them. Though (to be completely honest) I'm not wild about the use of present tense.

Yes, I mean there are weird things about this AU (like that none of the younger generation characters exist) but it's nice to think about the more healthy and less war-torn world it could have been in not for Tywin's pride.

Also what do you mean two? Rhaegar was married to Elia, who would here have been married to Jaime and thus he could have just married Lyanna and Robert could have sulked about the prince stealing his fiance but there would have been no grounds for war... that's the whole point of the AU really.

I think you are right about the present tense... the idea was to sort of immerse you in this reality like a fly on the wall but it comes out a big clunky.

Oh, right. I totally suck at things like remembering vital plot points. :)

It's okay. I stuck the references to both Jaime and Elia's marriage and Lyanna being queen in but it is my AU not yours and since it's just a ficlet it can be confusing exactly what has changed.

Actually I've been wondering if you would have time to look at a Littlefinger/Sansa fic I've written for a ficathon? It's totally oaky if you don't or don't want to but I'd love to get your feedback.

I wonder if Oberyn's feelings on Cersei would be different if Tywin had agreed to the marriage proposal & sent her to Dorne. I could totally see this happening if that had been the case.

Are you a member of do_me_oberyn?

I am sure they would be. For one thing her family would not be partly responsible for his sister and her children's murder. Also I think she'd be quite a different person having been sent to Dorne instead of staying at Casterly Rock and married to Oberyn instead of Robert.

No I am not.

In Dorne, Cersei would be free of the restrictions placed on her by strict gender roles. She'd love it.

Feel free to join, if you want. It's for fans of all the Martells, not just Oberyn despite the name. I added your fic to the community memories:)

Yes. Dorne is totally fascinating.

Neat. Thanks.
