So,
zagatto and I got a sitter last night and headed to
Northern Migration for the show. I decided to drop attending the workshops I wanted due to my low B12 and lack of memory. Also in the hopes we would be working on getting the house ready to show. But we decided to hit the show and see some friends.
It rocked... UNMATA totally rocked the show, as they had said they would right from the start. As the show openers, they were unequaled and unparalleled. I was blown away. I wanted more than just the 2 reps they had there, up on the stage. If you wanna see a clip of what we saw... go
here, the gals on the platform playing around, are UNMATA.
Also remarkable was
Fredrique. Unfortunately, her stylings were so detailed and precise they were lost in the immensity of the stage. You get a much better sense from the link, she needed lighting and ambiance to truly shine....
Others in the line up were Zafira, who had some fantastic new material and I was enthralled to see Olivia again, so soft and feminine and precise. As ever Maria's technique is second to none. Kassar did a fantastical groovy piece and were totally in sync with each other.
Urban Tribal's Heather Stants and Sarah were classically fantastic as always, Ultra Gypsy's Jill Parker and Rosie were fun and tight. Loved both these combos.
Closing the show was Gypsy Caravan. Which I had expected to pull out some good ole Classic American Tribal Style. But they too, were fusing it up and pulled off a full fusion piece with few elements of classic ATS that I expected. I felt that their energy was low at the beginning and it seemed to take a while for them to get into the groove. Once they pulled out their Zills, they were bang on and the energy came up a bit. Though far and away, the best I saw them perform that night was in round circle lead and follow at the after party.
Overall the show rocked. I wish I'd taken the workshops. So I could have been complaining about my thighs too as everyone seemed to be. Turns out it was a small turn out for such big names. I'm disappointed. I certainly hope there is a 2nd Annual next year, cause this event will top my calendar priorities. It's close to home, it's big names, and it was an intimate arena.
Well worth the price of admission and then some.
