"Demons run when a good man goes to war."

Okay... I wasn't expecting any of that. I think I need to watch the episode again for all of this to make sense.

Might as well as talk about the ending first (very Doctor Who that). So River Song is...Amy and Rory's daughter?!?!?

So what? Steven Moffat just assumed that one day he would get to create a new Companion? That seems so horribly presumptuous of him. Unless he wrote "Silence in the Library" after he decided he would be the new show-runner. That's the only way I'll accept it. Or maybe his idea of who River Song is changed once he took over for Russell. Maybe I need to watch the Confidential...

Ignoring all that, okay, River as Amy and Rory's kid isn't so bad. It kind of explains why the Doctor keeps going back to her. He helped to raise her, or so I assume, which is a bit strange, since that kind of makes him like an uncle to her. But anyway, it explains how River can fly the TARDIS, write in high Gallifreyan, and be a general bad ass. She learned from the best it seems. ;-) Oh, and now I see. Melody Pond = River Song. Or really, Song River. So does this mean that grown up Melody will one day fulfill her purpose and kill the Doctor? Or does River end up killing someone else, considering the universe sees the Doctor as the enemy. This doesn't make sense at all. But hey, there's a reasonable explanation for why River doesn't look at all like Amy and Rory's daughter. She regenerated!

But what did River say back at the end of "The Big Bang"? Once the Doctor finds out who she is, it changes everything? I suppose it does. Melody/River was created to kill the Doctor. That would be a damper on their relationship. Or maybe River is just lying. I always go back to her line from "Silence in the Library": "I lied. I always lie." It could be that River as we know her is not Amy and Rory's daughter. She could be some time traveller who's taken the real Melody/River's place. Who knows. We'll see...

So in the 51st, or possibly the 52nd, century, an army was formed to fight the Doctor. So what? This army was just waiting around until the Doctor picked up a couple so they could one day steal the baby and turn her into a Doctor killing machine? But there goes my theory about Amy being replaced by her Ganger during those three months. She was replaced way before that. But when did Eye Patch Lady have a chance to swap out Amy with Flesh!Amy? I'm not sure I really want to get into this.

Let's talk about other things. The universe viewing the Doctor as the enemy. It's original, I'll give you that. I mean, to us, he's the hero, always has been. To an outsider though, he is a menace. River's right about how far he's come since he ran away with the TARDIS. He just wanted to explore. The Doctor probably never thought he would end up some blood soaked warrior whispered about in myths and legends. It's just the sort of life he attracted though and it's been a slippery slope ever since. He sort of realized he was going down a darker path around his fifth incarnation, but I guess he regenerated before he could really do something about it. Will we see a different Doctor once this season is done?

I was kind of hoping that the "good man" of the title was referring to Rory, but he really wasn't the showcase of the episode. But he did have his moments of awesomeness. :-D I saw that promo pic of him, dressed in his Roman armour, facing down the Cybermen, and I was all "What? What the hell is going on?" I find it funny that it was the Doctor's idea to put him in the armour, but for good reasons. Besides making him a bad ass, it gives Rory his own myth to play upon. I just loved how at the beginning of the episode Amy was telling Melody about the man who was coming to save them and of course you think it's the Doctor, but yay! She was talking about Rory! Too often Rory is played as the bumbling idiot. How hot did he look with that sword and gun. :-D I hope from now on he's a little more aggressive. He did survive nearly two thousand years on his own. And I just love, love, that Amy's description of Rory pretty much makes him the Doctor in his own right. He's no longer playing the Raggedy Doctor.

The Doctor gathering his army was interesting. At first you're utterly confused but then it's kind of charming. Here are all these people we've never met, but the Doctor's met them and they've had adventures. The Doctor calling in his favours. Hell, if he had called on all of his friends, his army would have been frickin' enormousness. Cute to see Captain Avery and Toby again and the pilots from "Victory of the Daleks". It felt like a reverse of "The Pandorica Opens" though. An alliance not to trap him but to help him. And the Doctor pretty much speechified his way out of a tight situation again. Of course he would be disguised as a headless monk. The second you have cloaks of course one of your characters is going to use one to sneak in. Really, in the end though, his army was kind of cannon fodder. Might as well have given everyone a red shirt to wear.

So we're going to spend the back half of the season searching for Melody? Of course, Amy and Rory wouldn't be able to take her with them. This is a sci fi show. Kids are rarely raised by their parents. I hate that they split the season though. The BBC pulled a Syfy. I get that this is a huge cliffhanger and you want the fans to sweat it out for a bit, but this is just ridiculous. The BBC is better than this. I really hope this isn't the norm for future seasons.

Randomly: the baby cot (They call them cots in the UK?). I believe the Doctor when he said it was his, but I also think that he used it for his kids. And I totally went "aw!" when I saw it. I guess he packed a few things with him when he left Gallifrey? But why the heck does it have River/Melody's name on the side? Edit: Okay, the Confidential implies that it's the Doctor's name on the cot, which explains how River knows the Doctor's real name. Since she's half Time Lord she can read it. But that really doesn't explain Ten's line from "Forest of the Dead", about the only time he could tell someone his name. The only time he can tell someone his name is when he has a kid? Commander Strax was a laugh. I'm surprised Rory didn't say, "Hey, I'm a nurse, too" to him. River's line about "I'm not breaking out, I'm breaking back in" was cute. I don't see why they bother to have guards in Stormcage. River gets out regardless. And really? The next episode is called "Let's Kill Hitler?"

So when they say Doctor Who will be back in "Autumn 2011" when is that exactly? Because "autumn" is kind of vague. But it'll be interesting, to see how Doctor Who fares when it's up against the usual fall programs. But now I have nothing to watch during the summer! Bring on Torchwood, I guess.
