Home Made Laundry Detergent

A few people have asked me to post the recipe for the DIY laundry detergent I made recently.

You can find it here.

So far, it's gotten my clothes and linens quite nice and clean. I gave some to corbet , and she has apparently had equally good results using it.

For locals who may be wondering, I found washing soda at the ValuMart and Borax at Home Hardware ( ( Read more... )

Yep, I love the stuff. =)

What kind of bar soap did you use? When I eventually run out and make my own I'll use the same, in hopes of getting the same liquid consistency yours had.

Is your washing machine a front loader? I'm curious about how it works in one.

The washer in my building is a front loader. Works just fine in there. I just use the cap from my empty Seventh Generation HE detergent to measure out my home-made stuff.

Yep, I have a high efficiency front loader and it works fine. I don't use a lot of detergeant, but that was true when I used Tide too. (I find a little goes the proverbial long way.)

Right now I'm using Nature Clean 3 x concentrated and I use about a tablespoon of detergent. HE washers are great :-)

I used Zaytoun fair trade olive oil soap. I have no idea whether any stores here carry it, since my dad always gives it to me for gift occasions. He buys it from some sort of 'save Palestine' organization, and I imagine it's probably not all that cheap. I just happened to have a few bars lying around.

Zautoun is made of 72% olive oil. I think any other pure-ish olive oil soap would work just as well.
