Well, I am done my coursework for the term. I finished my last paper on Sunday. I am rather cheered by the fact that in the last three weeks, the number of pages I have written equals approximately two PhD thesis chapters. Makes me less intimidated about doing the real thing in another year or two or three. Don't get me wrong... spending that much time typing away on my computer and searching through books and e-journals and then meticulously rewriting and editing is hellish, but it can be done, and there is joy in it too.
I technically am not getting a break at all between the terms because I have already started my education course, but it's pretty laid back so I can chill a bit between now and next Tuesday, which is when my second-to-last English class begins.
Unfortunately, I had to work more-or-less the entire time my dad was here. Any of you who have lived with me or spent more than a few days under the same roof as me know, I am not particularly good at working with other people around. Someone breathing too loudly distracts me. Oddly, I don't mind background noise, like a bit of traffic sound, or the base line from someone's music coming through the ceiling, because it's a white noise. But people noise drives me nuts. It's nothing against any individual person. I hate all other humans when I am working and I wish they would all go away and leave me in peace. As a result, I am rather snappish when people in the room do things like, oh, breathe too loud. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I live alone for good reason.
Anyway, I did have a good visit with my dad anyway. He tried not to annoy me, and I tried not to be too snappish, although I was snappish a few times. We had a really good day in TO. If you haven't seen it yet and are in the area, GO SEE THE DARWIN EXHIBIT AT THE ROM. It is a really well put together display, and they have cool stuff for kids, too, for those of you who have little folks around.
My Dad has become a born again Darwinian (Darwinist?) It's actually kind of funny. He has read most of Darwin's work, and he knows way more about Darwin than any reasonable person should. All he talks about these days is Darwin, evolution and genetics. It's a monomania, I tell you. He kept tearing up the in the exhibit. That's just how into it he is.
Anyway, that's all for now, if any of you read this whole thing. Think I'm going to go outside today. The weather's been amazing and I've been cooped up inside for weeks.
Hope you are all well.
