In Character Information

character name: Tifa Lockhart
Fandom: Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
Timeline: Right after Cloud defeats Sephiroth.
character's age: 22

powers, skills, pets and equipment: Tifa uses Knuckles in combat. Her ultimate weapon is Premium Heart. Aside from having a powerful punch, however, Tifa is logical, down to earth and good at reading other people's emotions.

Her weaknesses lie mostly in Cloud and the other ShinRa SOLDIERs. She does fear them, though she has been working on that. Maybe, in time, she will be able to overcome her nightmares. But, at the moment, she is a bit...tentative (and maybe even hesitant) when in their presence.

On a lesser note, however, Tifa has a soft heart. That can be both a strength and a weakness - especially if someone chooses to use her kindness against her.

canon history: Her story.

personality: Tifa has matured a lot since her days in Nibelheim. Additionally, she has grown stronger in mind and body. She didn't really have a choice after her tragic encounter with a mad Sephiroth. But she has chosen not to dwell on that moment, though it will always be apart of her; and, perhaps, that is what makes Tifa tentative and shy sometimes - especially when it comes to dealing with Cloud.

Regardless, her propensity for being tentative/shy from time to time does not outweigh her strong convictions. Tifa is a woman that many can look up to. When the chips are down, she won't bow down. Each and every time, she will stand up and fight - even if she is outrageously underpowered when compared to her opponent. (See her battle (if you can call it that) with Sephiroth and her battle with Loz in Advent Children.)

The last part of her personality is perhaps the most complicated. Tifa is definitely a motherly character (thus why she connects with Marlene and Denzel so well), but her maternal attributes come out when she is talking to Cloud as well. She does have deep, romantic feelings for him, but it's not as simple as saying "I love you". Tifa will always harbor a fear of ShinRa SOLDIERs. Because of what Cloud is and what he can do, she is a bit more cautious around him than one might expect between a couple/potential couple. But she does love him and she will protect him to the best of her ability. That in itself speaks of a deep strength within her that is loving, protective and forgiving.

why do you feel this character would be appropriate to the setting? Tifa is a fighter. She can handle Anatole relatively well, I think. (She's more prepared than my other characters, at least.) But, most of all, she is good at lifting spirits and protecting those who cannot protect themselves.

Writing Samples

Network Post Sample: How did I...? [Tifa sounds as groggy as she looks. She sits up on an unfamiliar bed, rubbing her head.] Cloud? [Her face falls when she receives no answer.] What happened to me? Is this an infirmary?

[Shifting off of the bed, she stands up - carefully - and places her hands on her hips.]

I'm not hurt. But then how did I get here? [Walking to the window, she still doesn't notice the Forge recording all of her movements.] Hm this can't be good. [The winking light on the Forge finally catches her attention. She turns and tilts her head, expression solemn.]

...hello? [Leaning forward, she manages a small smile.] Can anyone hear me? My name is Tifa Lockhart and I'm looking for someone named Cloud Strife. He's...a little taller than me - but not by much! He has spiky blond hair, blue eyes and he usually carries a big sword.

[She pauses.] Does he sound...familiar?

Third Person Sample: The church was peaceful and quiet. Tifa visited it frequently, enjoying the bright blooms of Aerith's flowers. Today was no different. Pushing open the wooden doors, she let herself in and walked slowly between the pews.

"Marlene?" she called, spotting the small girl in the midst of the flowers, "What are you doing?"

Marlene perked up at the sound of Tifa's voice, rising from her self-appointed task and running towards the woman. After throwing her arms around Tifa's waist, she answered brightly:

"Counting the flowers!"

Tifa frowned and brushed her hand over Marlene's dark hair.

"Why are you doing that?" she was genuinely curious.

The small girl hurried back to the blooms, kneeling down.

"I think there are more this year!"

A soft, sweet smile touched Tifa's lips. Tilting her head back, she looked up at the hole in the roof. Even though the sky was cloudy and grey, she could feel Aerith's presence all around them. She was here.

But that didn't mean Aerith wasn't missed. Tifa closed her eyes and wrapped her arms around herself. She called forth the image of the flower-girl in her mind's eye, trying to send her a message.

We miss you. Cloud needs you. But I'll...try to give him a new life.

A small breeze ruffled her hair and inhaled deeply. The sweet scent of the irises was comforting.

He can be stubborn.

That was an understatement. Tifa knew how hard-headed the blond could be. Opening her eyes, she stepped forward, immersing herself in the flowers. Kneeling down, she checked the soil around each flower. It seemed damp enough. There was no reason why the flowers would wither.

"Are you almost done?" she tilted her head, watching Marlene hop from iris to iris. The girl nodded and scampered to one of the pews. She picked up a stuffed animal and hugged it to her chest.

"Good." Tifa rose to her feet, brushing the dirt off of her hands, "It's time for lunch. What do you want to eat?" she held out her hand and Marlene took it.

(Additional sample from her previous game -)

The alarm must be broken. Tifa couldn't recall it going off like it usually did, which was strange. But that certainly wasn't the strangest part of her morning.

Was it even morning? Surely it was too dark. And what was that smell?

Shifting slightly, the woman found that she was very stiff. Her current condition was probably thanks to where she had slept. The creaking wooden boards underneath her were hardly a hospitable bed.

"Where am I?" she murmured, rubbing her head groggily.

She had no idea who she was talking to, but she knew she needed some answers. Quickly, she hopped to her feet and balanced precariously. Clenching her hands into fists, she looked around her and realized that she was not alone on her strange bed. There was a cloaked figure who seemed to be guiding the odd craft to a dark shore.

"Who are you?" she raised her voice, narrowing her dark eyes, "Why have you taken me?"

By now, the kids, at least, would know she was missing. Tifa refused to make them worry for nothing - especially if she could get herself out of this situation. Raising her fists in front of her face, she scowled.

"I want to go home. Wherever you're taking me..." her words were cut off as the boat jolted. Nearly losing her balance, she gasped. Something told her that she did not want to fall into this river. The water wasn't right. It almost reminded her of the polluted water back home.

"Hm." she reached in her back pocket and searched for her cellphone. Of course she didn't have it on her. Frowning, she crouched down and re-assessed her situation.

I'm on a boat with...someone. They're possibly mute or too arrogant to talk to me. I don't know where I am or why I have been brought here. And it won't be safe to start a fight until we reach the shore.

Nodding, Tifa grabbed the edge of the boat and settled down.

I need to be patient. Then I'll act.

She wasn't the "ride in with guns blazing" type, after all. She would leave that to the SOLDIERs. Now if Marlene or Denzel were here with her, that would have been a different story. But, thankfully, they weren't. So she would bide her time and deal with the situation as it unfolded.
