No Mind Left to Lose

So I wandered around
On the seas of disgrace
And painted a picture
Stealing colors from the sunset
Because a sunset is romantic
And a sunset is symbolic
And worst of all a sunset is depressing
When you're watching it alone

And I'm listening to the ghosts
Of all who came before
The pirates, the patriots, and the cowboys
Who all grew up to be mascots
And I got a penny for my thoughts
But I had to give back change
Because it's hard to think
When there's no mind left to lose

So take this to the bank
All you aspiring lawyers and doctors
The best advice is the stuff you never hear
Because life is too much living
Listen to the waves
That don't get lost at shore
They have more to say
Than sailors lost at sea

And I'm starving for just one bite
Of food not fit for thought
Because I haven't eaten anything
But my own words for weeks
And I'll always be a beggar
And I'll always want to choose
But it's hard to think
When there's no mind left to lose
