WMU AUDITIONS

TODAY WAS THE DAY!!!
Western Michigan University Auditions Were Today!!!
I got there at 5 to 8 am and signed in...by 8:30am I was in the actors studio, where the auditions took place. Jay Burkow, the Musical Theatre Head, talked to us and then we went out and waited.

I felt really nervous, which was wierd because I never get nervous...ever, but Prescott came over and settled me down ...(thanks buddy)!

They explained to us that if Jay Burkow didn't ask you to come back for dance auditions at 2:15 then you weren't being considered for the Musical Theatre Performance Program.....nothing like a little pressure.

Then it was my turn....I was # 11...so the wait was not that long (THANK GOD)!
I went in and became a little bit more relaxed... I gave the Pianist my music and she was thankful for the way I arranged it all. That made me feel better too.
Then the "music" guy there (out of a panel of 3...dance, theatre, music judges) started to make fun at my name...in an italian accent...like   hey tooony....tony serra...hey...very mafia like... that made me laugh.

Then I introduced my pieces and there was nooo looking back.

The music began to play for my slow song....I began to sing....I sounded great ( thought to myself)...especially for having Cotton mouth.
Finished that song and the faster song began...I began to sing...It was slow, so I just sang a little bit faster and the Pianist followed me phanominally. I did that peice nicely too.
Songs Over.

Monologue Time...I sat down in the chair and began to talk.
Got through it....didnt get the last 2 words out because I ran out of time...But it wasnt a big deal, so yeah.

Then the "music" guy said "there is a piece of music sitting on the piano...take it...and sing it"
I have never seen this music before....yikes...haha

So I sang that...it was fine i guess....not great but noone is apparantly.

Then I was asked by Mr. Burkow to come back for dance....YAY I made the Cut!

So I went to lunch at Applebee's and came back at 1pm for registration for the Plain theatre performance audition...(I had 2 auditions today for two programs)

Then after i registered...I went and changed for the dance.  Then back to the Theatre perfomance for a little meeting on that audition...then back to the Main theatre where the dance was....I warmed up and streched out...and we began with a ballet.......Must I say I am a terrible dancer.

The Material was extreamly difficult and the dance guy was speaking french and everything...NUTS....
Needless to say I sucked at the ballet.

Then the Jazz.....That means faster....HAHAAHAHAHa .....Needless to say I sucked.

Then I left and got told that Most guys suck at the dance so...u know...ok big deal.

Then I changed again and went to the Theatre performance room and went in to the room in a group of five... I watched three people give their monologues and then it was my turn....

I gave the dramatic monologue first and the Comic last.

Dramatic went fine..
Comic went great...they all lauged really hard It was great!
I feel confident that I got in to that.

Then on my way out of the building (cuz at that point I was done) A MTP (musical theatre) student, who was helping out all day, said "great job" and I was like yikes....dance was sorta a mess...and she was like....well the guys don't really ever do great. and that made me feel better, then she said..."I heard you were an amazing singer though, because my friend was in the audition room when you came in and she said you gave her goosebumps. So that means you must be really good" I SIGHED in relief and said ...THANK YOU and then I left for home....yay me...IM just proud I got through it and didnt pee my pants. It was a good experience.

Ill let you know what happens in 2 weeks when I get the letter, prolly after spring break.

Any questions? Leave a comment please!
