Angels & Airwaves at KROQ's Redbull Soundspace
I had initially watched this as a live stream at KROQ's site, but wwwblink182eu at Youtube helpfully uploaded the entire set in separate videos, so I thought I'd share! I . . . apologize in advance for how horrible Tom sounds live. He sounds a bit like a dying cat wailing during its final throes, and I say that with the utmost love and affection. I recommend watching it only for David's hands.
The first video is an interview - a very, very brief interview - in which you witness how adorable Ilan is, how adorable Matt is, how microphone-inept David is, and how high on himself Tom can be. (Okay, maybe that last one is a stretch, but as much as I love Tom I have no illusions that he's a douchebag with a bit of a complex. At least he's not as bad as Jared Leto oimsry).
Seriously, though, David apparently has no idea how to use a microphone. I guess that makes sense; he doesn't sing backing vocals so he never has call to be in front of a mic. BUT CAN WE JUST TALK ABOUT MATT AND HIS LITTLE ANSWER 'I WAS MAKING BABIES' AWW MATT DOES LITTLE SAILOR MAE HAVE A BABY BROTHER OR SISTER YET? Seriously though I need to get a premium membership on their site again so I can actually watch new videos and stuff I MISS THESE GUYS SO MUCH YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW AHHHH.
The Adventure! Track four off their first album, We Don't Need to Whisper, and one of
vamm_goda's very favorite songs by them. I can't blame her! Again, I apologize for how Tom sounds (but, hey, some people like this sort of thing?). I'm not entirely convinced he's sober for this.
Can we just talk about David's fingers forever? And Matt's backing vocals? Fun fact: he used to sing backing vocals for 30stm, but then, inexplicably, Jared took away his mic. Also fun fact: Jared fired him at the beginning of a show, in front of a massive audience, and did not warn Matt of this fact ahead of time. Anyone who wants to say that AVA is a step down from 30stm can suck my fucking dick. I have all of the negative feelings about Jared and 30stm. But let's not get into that. We're here for LOVE and fun, right? And so YAY MATT'S BACKING VOCALS AND DAVID KENNEDY'S MASSIVELY LONG FINGERS :D This song is Anxiety, track three off their latest album, LOVE II, the reprise of their third album, LOVE, and LOVE the film.
Track two off their second album, I-EMPIRE, is Everything's Magic. I first got into them when I-EMPIRE first came out, back in late 2007/early 2008, so the songs off this album hold special significance to me. This was their first single, I believe, and although it's not my favorite song off the album, I can't exactly say that I have a least favorite, either. (My favorite off that album, for anyone curious, is Call to Arms.)
This is Hallucinations, straight off LOVE, their third studio album. It's among my favorites off that record - though, just like I-E, I don't exactly have a least favorite, either. Can we just talk about David playing keys forever? And just. Just. HIS HANDS, OKAY? unfunfunfunf. And his arms, guys, HIS ARMS. akgjhkergjhsdkjh
The last song in the set is another off of LOVE II, called Surrender. Ilan playing keys <3 and David stealing something from Matt XD And David's bopping. AND DAVID'S EVERYTHING OKAY JUST GAH DAVID KENNEDY. And Mattmattmatt. ALL OF THEM GUYS OKAY JUST ALL OF THEM.
I thought that was a nice song to end the set with, though I wish they'd hung around for a bit longer to do a few more questions. I'm pretty sure they only had like six questions and only answered three, and I know that all of them were probably on a timecrunch, but still.
Thoughts? I wasn't too keen on the interviewer/DJ/whatever, myself, but I'm open to your opinions on the matter XD
