Nashua, Smashua

The weirdest thing about living in Nashua (at least during a presidential campaign) is that you're always bumping into politicans. So far, through no fault of my own, I've run into Bill Richardson, Ron Paul (who, terrifyingly, has TONS of supporters around here), and last night, Fred "I'm An Actor" Thompson. Fred Thompson has the nicest signs, ( Read more... )

"Ron Paul (who, terrifyingly, has TONS of supporters around here)"

Just curious, but why "terrifyingly"? I've been reading a lot about Ron Paul lately and some people are crazy for him while others are crazy against him.
I personally like some of what he has to say but, in politics, things are never what they seem. Every other politician is doing exactly what I'd expect - toting party lines and feeding us the same-old same-old but he seems to buck the trend. Is there something particular that I should be aware of?

The fact that he's from Texas is enough to turn me off. There should be a Constitutional amendment that we can't have any more presidents from Texas. Five years of LBJ and eight years of GWB have me convinced that Texans are know-nothing war-mongers unfit to hold any office higher than general manager of a professional football team.

OK, fair enough, but I generally like a bit more to go on than that. I've been doing some further reading and can only say that it looks like Dr. Paul, as opposed to every other candidate, is very consistent. The implication is that he'll be more likely do what he says because that's his track record. So on that account I like him. Still reading though, but I'm actually getting more optimistic about him. Now just waiting for the gotcha.

He may be from Texas, but he's definitely NOT like the other good ol' boys...

Yes, quite a list. I'd ask, though, how many of those items ~should~ our government be involved in in the first place? After a quick glance I'd chop about 7/8 right of the list. Now if you really do want a nanny government because you can't take care of yourself then OK, keep them on the list. But really, why in the world is the government involved in the first place ( ... )
