Freshman year of college can let a student's mind wander. Most of the time, the student does not know what to do with all this free time. Most of the time, the college student will find a hobby, or spend some more time with their friends. Every once in a while, a student will over work themselves with clubs, jobs, and other kinds of obligations.

First, the student will find a part-time job so that they have money to pay for college. This may seem like a wonderful idea in the beginning of the semester. At the beginning, there isn't much work in some classes, and students will spend less time working on things outside of school. This may last for a month or two, but once papers start being assigned, and there are tests to study for, the days seem to be shorter, and students find themselves tired and start missing homework. Also, if the part-time job is in retail, chances are the hours per week that the employer wants from the student will rise when it gets closer to the winter holidays. This rise seems to come just as it gets closer and closer to finals week too. Maybe the student doesn't want to be employed. Perhaps, this student is one who just wants to submerse themselves in the college life. So, they look for some clubs that they like. This college student finds about 2-3 clubs to join. College is about trying new things, right? Well, clubs need officers, and since that would look good on a resume or a transcript, why not go for as many positions as possible? Now there's a college student enrolled full-time, and being the president of a couple clubs. Just like the job, it seems like a wonderful idea until things really start going. The same thing happens, and between papers, tests, and events there is not enough time in a day. Finally, it is a week before the end of the semester, and the student is on the verge of failing out of college. Now, the student realizes that something has to give.

College may seems easy in the beginning, but students need to remember that things change. It's great to want to do everything, but they must remember that there are only so many hours in a day, and they don't have to have obligations to fill them all. A student should always allow time for work outside of school. Moreover, they need to remember that they need some time in a day where it's just for them.
