week one!
I was about halfway home...well, EXACTLY halfway home when i got the call from professional recruiting last Friday. I was offered a position as a Retail Guest Service Manager at the World of Disney. I was to start on Monday, July 4th. So I continued on home, picked up some more clothes, let the parents know, and drove back to Orlando on Saturday.
Fourth was fun. Just some introductory nonesense. I'm now on a teeam of 17 other leaders, and two management interns. The building is MASSIVE. It's just a little overwhelming. On my first day of work, i had lunch with the Manager of Retail Sales and the General Manager of Merchandise of Downtown Disney. No pressure. :-\ A lot of reinteration of that there were a lot of people who fought to get me there, and how they expect great things. At this point, i'm just trying to figure out how to make an impact. There are SO many people that work at WOD, and they literally are the best of the best. It's a huge compliament to be asked to join that team, especially as your first "real" assignement.
Found a place to live on Wednesday. Signed at the Empirian..which is located exactly 8 minutes from my desk. I'm going to be living with Laura. I'd seen to complex the week before, when I helped Ryan move in. Pretty complex. Has a built in alarm system. We're on the third floor, with views of the apartment complex going up next door. That part sucks, but everything else is okay. Um...there's more there.... not... anyway. So we sign, pay the deposit and all that stuff. Chickie Leasing Agent calls Thursday morning....."um, yeah, ::giggle gigggle:; I'm so sorry but, Hee hee, I leased your apartment twice by accident! so i don't have aplace for you. heheh gigggle" WHY. WHY do people insist on making me evil? I'm a nice person. I am. I can be sweeet as pie, and most of the time, I like being sweet as pie. But this pop eyed hiefer decided to make a mistake, and then, wasn't going to do anything to resolve it! I was like...this is your mistake. Here are your options...you can upgrade our apartment for the same price OR since we have cancelled everything at our other apartment (since you guaranteed the new one) you will pay all expenses accrued due to your mistake. Miraculously, an apartment with the same layout we had before became available for our exact move in date. Imagine that. So moving into new apartment on July 27th.
Did I mention that i get relocation assistance? Oh, and full benefits? Including psychological, which I apparently need bc I agreed to comeback. ;-) That also reminds me...I've missed four weddings for some really good friends (Chassati, Rachel, Jeremy, and Alison). I'm SOOO sorry. I am currently working to rectify this situation...I know it's not the same, but know that I would have LOVED to be there, and wish you all the best with your spouses (OMG, PEOPLE ARE MARRIED!?! i HAVEN'T EVEN STARTED DATING YET!) I wanna see pictures!!
I have today off. OOOH!! Jacki is here! Her family and I went to dinner last night. That was fun =) Hopefully will get to hang out with them later in the week. Am working monday, meet and greets on tuesday, wednesday off. then i go to normal wednesday/thursday days off. so my lost night remains intact. ;-)
