Fic: Losing Ground [2]

Author: LMX
Fandom: Leverage
Rating: PG-13
Pairings: Nate/Sophie, Parker/Hardison(/Eliot)

AN: What started out as a comment fic for smilesoftnsweet has turned into a full on 'verse for me, and it's one of those where I don't care if no one reads it, I just have to write for it. So there are a handful of one-shots in no particular order, and a series of larger pieces which need a bit more work. I will put up a time line at some point if that helps people? Meanwhile I'll let you work everything out for yourself. These do not need to be read in order (hopefully) to be understood.

Eliot Spencer would be the first to tell you he wasn't an academic sort. He knew a handful of languages through benefit of spending time in those countries with those people not always at the permission of his own country. He learned by doing, by speaking, by listening and watching. His body learned faster than his conscious mind.

When they first got the news from the hospital, Eliot had been the first to sign up for a class in sign language. Still, Parker had learned in such style and with such speed that he was learning as much from her as from the class within the first two weeks. He'd expected Parker to find it difficult. The girl wasn't good with body language or facial expressions, and the whole language was effectively nothing but.

They stopped talking to each other for the three weeks that Alec was held by the doctors, still healing. If there was a sign they didn't know they made do with spelling it until they could get to a computer and look it up, leaving the page bookmarked for Hardison when he got home.

Eliot had to remind Parker twice that Hardison hadn't even started learning yet, so signing at him when he first got home wasn't going to achieve much. Not that Hardison was paying much attention, just staring shell-shocked at the nearest wall, oblivious to them all.

In the end Parker got his attention by sitting in his lap and startling him into tipping her onto the floor. His sharp "Shit!" seemed to be enough to break the dam, and when Parker tried again, sneaking onto his lap and letting him curl his arms around her waist to hold her there, he was crying. Eliot left them to it. Parker might be crazy, but she knew what she was doing when it came to Hardison.
