They waited for the end of the most recent con, because having any of them distracted like that while they were working was going to get them all killed. But then they'd been distracted anyway, and things had gotten a bit hairy for Eliot for a while.
When they'd gotten back to Nate's apartment they'd given Parker and Hardison enough time to share in the gloat and then politely moved them both towards the door.
Nate had come back to the sofa via the kitchen, picking up a fresh ice pack and pouring a glass of wine for Sophie as he stalled. After a moment of staring at the glass he picked up the bottle, and brought that along too.
Sophie fixed him with a stare as he crossed the room, and Eliot's lips twitched into a determined not-smile as he put the bottle of wine down on the table.
"Alright, what's going on?" Sophie asked, accepting the glass seriously.
Nate took a seat and gestured for Eliot to give him the melting ice pack he had pressed against the side of his knee. He stayed silent as he unwrapped the towel from around it and prepared its replacement.
Somewhere between the stall in the con earlier that day and this moment right now, all his excellent openers had flown right out of his head. Internally he was scrambling for the right words, which he knew he had planned out to perfection less than four hours ago and practiced half a dozen times since.
He swallowed hard.
"Sophie." Eliot spoke up instead, reaching over to take the icepack off Nate before he squeezed the life right out of it. "What Nate is trying to say..." his voice was full of laughter, the bastard, "Is that we both love you more'n's reasonable, and we'd like to share our bed with you."
It was cornier than Nate would have gone for, but Eliot had the charm to pull it off.
Sophie put her glass down on the table very carefully. "Oh," she said, in a voice of startled delight, and her tone made Nate finally look up and meet her eyes. "Well, if that's all..." she smiled at him, then at Eliot. "Why didn't you say so sooner?"
