Dollhouse This is a shame really, because I can't deny I loved the series. It's just not one I'm going to be mourning too hard, other than in the missed potential.
The premise of this series is that there is technology that can remove a person's consciousness from their mind and implant any other consciousness instead. The person could be made into a perfect partner for someone, or a perfect spy, or a perfect killer... whatever you need. Needless to say, mostly it's being exploited by people with enough money to buy their 'perfect woman/man' for the night. Literally programmed to meet their needs.
What a premise. Holy shit yes.
So we have the hard-arsed English matron, keeping all the 'dolls' in line. (Olivia Williams! - dear God where to start, 6th Sense, Peter Pan, X-men, Agatha Christie) The damaged doctor who is hiding far more secrets than you could ever imagine. (FRED! Sorry, Amy Acker - Angel) The ego-centric scientist programming each of the consciousnesses. (Fran Kranz - nothing I can really list here, but if he doesn't pick up some things soon, I'm going to be sad. He rocked this) The FBI agent convinced that the secret underground conspiracy is actually happening, despite all evidence to the contrary. (TAHMOH! Penikett - BSG)
Amazing actors, playing their part to perfection, every one.
And then we have the dolls, playing literally hundreds of different roles, each one separate and distinct. Victor, Sierra, November... every single one plays their part to the edge of what I'd ever hoped or imagined. Victor especially - Enver Gjokaj - dear God I hope he gets some damn good roles out of this series. He ROCKED MY WORLD. To the point where at one point he is playing not some made-up character, but ONE OF THE OTHER ACTORS, and you believe it. You believe he *is* that actor. His voice, his manner... out of this world. There is one other character I want to put in here, but if you plan on watching the series, I just *can't* because it's too huge and awesome a spoiler.
So I'm sure you're reading all this and going - why did this disappoint you, it sounded like it rocked?
I can tell you in two words why this series disappointed me. Eliza. Dushku.
She was amazing as Faith. Even good as Tru. She was NOT RIGHT as Echo. She played every role pretty much the same. When she was out of her comfort zone she was uncomfortable, and eventually ended the episode back in her comfort zone. Angry and fighting.
Eventually the series caught on, and edged her out of most of the episodes, covering her up with the other dolls, making it so that her inability to play other characters was part of her central character. Unfortunately, other things meant that it was just too late for the series.
Because this was Joss Whedon, the man had one last trick up his sleeve that meant the series made it to a satisfying and complete ending, not just shriveling up and dying. This man is a genius.
So this was what happened. The show looked to be shot. Cancellation on the cards. He turned around and said "I will make you one last episode for this season, and I will make it with fuck-all budget and you will then give me another season." And he knocked it out of the park. The best episode of the series and not only because it didn't really feature Eliza Dushku and really did feature Felicia Day. And they gave him one last season.
This series is WORTH WATCHING - do not question that at all. But it is not the worst cancellation in history ever (FIREFLY). It is worth watching all the way to the end, because there are three episodes of ABSOLUTE AND UTTER F**KING JOY at the end of the series that make it all alright again. (and in the same moment completely destroy you. Tears, snot and laughter)
Sorry Dollhouse. You disappointed me.

Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers!! (Oh yes, I am not ashamed)
I won't write an epic about this one, because it's been a VERY LONG TIME. Basically this was my introduction to martial arts :D And yes, I'm well aware it was dire, but really, this was Transformers meets Karate Kid and I was totally in love with the Yellow Ranger. I was young, and this is still great. All of the sequels were hideous attempts at replicating the original genius.
I wouldn't recommend you go and look it up, but this was my childhood.
