Have finally gotten back all of my prelim results. To be honest I wasn't particularly concerned with my prelims, I should be, but I'm not :(
Anyway, the results aren't too bad, A (chem), D (lit), D (maths), D (bio) and C5 for GP.
I would say I did better than I expected for lit considering I did not fail any of the papers *passedGOTSsqueeforjoy!* with Gothic coming in at the bottom for performance. Mr Wong must have really been aggravated, because everyone's scripts had excessive amounts of comments on both margins and even over portions of our essays. I've been spared from the worst of it though, some others had chunks circled with rather mean comments like 'banal' or 'nonsense'. Not enough prac crit still as usual. Gothic essay was horrendous as usual. Not enough content knowledgeto answer the question coupled with a severe mental block. Paper 5: Revenger's did worse than expected. Clod and the Pebble (Blake) did better than expected. Have to read the comments to find out more about what went well and what did not. *Squee (again)* Did not fail Roy and Mrs Ang said my approach was correct *shock*. But anyway, need to read all the texts more and familiarise myself with them. Also, better time management needed for all. Of course, since both of the above papers shared the same day as a science paper, some sacrifice to studying was made and I definitely should not take it too easy. Sleep more on the actual night before to maintain a clear mind.
What can I say? I didn't study properly for all the papers, but especially papers 1 and 2. Come on, I mean like, who actually reads GB manga until about 9PM then starts studying proper. God was very merciful in allowing me to pass. Which really makes me very much guilty for wilfully disobeying Him. Need to study MORE MORE MORE! Most certainly do NOT have a good grasp of the facts. Paper 2 was terrible! 42/100 is most unacceptable, Gracia. You better mug your ass off after this. Mrs Foo was most entertaining though with many citations of funny answers given by students btu also many good pointers about things to look out for.
There was definitely insufficient practice due perhaps to overcomplacency and also an alarming lack of regard for the results and much carelessness. I must remember not to practice Maths for too long on the night before the actual Maths paper lest I ed up going to bed at 11 and falling asleep past 2 again. Hmm, areas to target include: stats (****especially important), Integration, vectors, complex. Never give up! *Does my best GaoBlack imitation*
Overall, the subject I have the most confidence in, must be wary not to be overly confident though.Still way too careless. :S A lot of facts still not clear, but overall it should be ok. Study notes again to clear up any misconceptions which are many. Am very thankful for chem tuition which has helped me to check my facts. Worryingly, when I revised alcohols today, I found that I still had misconceptions about nitration of phenol. Dilute HNO3 will produce mono-subst nitrophenol only conc HNO3 will produce multi-subst pdt. Chun's answer for food chem is still the best. There will be no effect of adding lemon juice to the chicken drumstick as enzymes are not involved, although you will get lemon chicken. LOL! And another one that went, the maillard's reaction produces toxic compunds to which the teacher-marker says: then do we die every time we eat KFC or Burger King. They would go out of business. Really like Mr Lee's style, He's got same very witty comments and he delivers them with such a straight face. If I become a teacher I would wishto be someone like him. Of course, I don't think I can make it and every one has his or her own style, I just have to find one that works for me and hopefully for the students.
As Mr Wilks so well put it, 'there are 3 things lacking in your papers: Substance, Style and... *I forgot the last one, he said, spoiling the effect of his speech* ... ah yes, I remember now-- structure, much like the improvised speech I'm giving right now'. GP was a real wake-up call. Of course the fact that I was out of point played a pivotal role in the unsightly result, but reading through the suggested essay outlines makes me all the more aware of my lack of content knowledge and ability to analyse the question. Very much need to read up more to gain enough breadth and depth to handle more questions comfortably. Argh... Also need to brush up on my vocabulary. My England is going down the drain. Should read more 'proper lit' after my A's rather than fanfiction to make up for my lack of cultural knowledge. Thomas Hardy, Jane Austen, Hemmingway, Joseph Conrad, Charles Dickens and so forth.
In other news, went to the gym to work out with Grace and Weiwen, Soks came to pick up the leftover sweets that have been piled up in the backyard since the end of our fund-raising project making Mummy very happy. Also redid my LJ layout. Still not satisfied. Simply am not artistic enough though I try my best. Maybe will play more after A's. Have got 2 icons churned out though. Still not too pleased with the Attraction. Ban one but at least it looks marginally better. and I like the modified ginji one. wil remake the kazuki one that I deleted the last time.
Also went to Pei Tong to deliver the sweets on Monday and tutored the kids a little. The kids are little brats sometimes. I will probably still try relief-teaching at HPPS but probably won't make it as a primary school teacher. Will also try out NY. Must set date for going down to teach kids to make towel dogs. And they had very pretty art down by the students put up at the centre. I think I could produce work of similar standard at that time but that's just me. However, this lead to Qiangie recounting a very funny incident when she was younger: she wanted to draw a dog but it looked like a giraffe, and she tried to make it a giraffe but it became an elephant (or something else? I can't quite remember) O_o
