Whee... I'm so elated. Just received a letter from SMU offering a double degree in business admin and social sciences yesterday :D Fortunately my family has been tolerant about my squeeing and rattling off of statistics about how hard it is to get in. Haven't decided whether or not to take it up, but I do think that it sounds rather attractive. Not sure if the party culture of the student populace is gonna overwhelm me. Had been fairly certain that performed sufficiently well enough to impress for the interview but wasn't sure about the essay. B3 for GP you know... Also, I didn't write something particularly emotive and personal which is what I think they were looking out for. Just something like GP. Look what GP did to me...
Anyway, this came just a day before the USP interview at NUS which kind of puts me at peace because at least I have something to fall back on. The USP interview was bleargh... I think I screwed up, especially when I said that I didn't read much. It didn't go off to a flying start either as my first answer was too standard and had the interviewers probing. Hopefully my crapping skills can pull off a save... That put a real damper on my day seeing as I was already sick from having got insufficient sleep the past 3 days and getting caught in the rain, not to mention that I work in a veritable hotbed of germs at NUH MOT where every other person is sick or falling sick. Was kind of pissed off that I had to wake up at 6.30 for a crappy interview that lasted not more than 10 minutes. Not worth it, especially since I don't think I'll get through. At least I met Rachel from Novel tuition again and saw 2 new friends Jean and Sharon (who's a friend of darling Weijie).
Hung out at Kinokuniya and blew a hole in my already broken pocket with more manga buying (see below) while waiting to see the dermatologist at the NSC. Also read saiyuki reloaded 2 at
library@orchard and found out that sharpe's fury is available but the one had
L@O is missing already. After see the doctor, now I've got pills, antimicrobial face wash and 2 types of topical creams... This is gonna be such a bother. At least the A/Prof was pleasant enough and the pharmacist guy was quite nice, injected some humour. Must remember that the morning cream is to be applied by dabbing with a clean finger (different one for each spot). The PCA at the registration counter must have thought I was quite a dope since I was so blur blur..
In other news, have already finished the saiyuki, saiyuki reload and sayiku reload gunlock series and am starting on black cat. The art style of minekura kazuya is love~! GB has beautiful art too (though not as good in my opinion)...Black cat has not so good art, but a good storyline. Ditto for FMA. Anyway, have bought volumes 3-6 of saiyuki reload and am presently ogling at the artwork. *all teh bishies~ Also managed to pick up the limited edition of GB 38 and really wanted 39 too. But apparently it's sold out in Singapore and the stocks are really low in Japan.. Oh the horror! Keeping fingers and holding out in hopes that the Chinese version of GB 39 will have the limited edition postcards. Couldn't resist the temptation and eventually caved in, buying the normal edition of GB 39 just so I wouldn't be left on a cliffhanger. Not that my Japanese reading skills are particularly proficient, mind you. The last piece volume is out but it's SGD 23 so there's no way I'm forking out so much especial when it supposedly promises to fill in gaps and is likely to be pivotal in my understanding of the GB world... Guess I'll have to wait for the Chinese version too. Have only recently found where the Chuangyi Chinese manga section is and Chuangyi Manga is soooo much cheaper than the Tongli ones. As a result, have splurged on getting the entire series of Spiral (Chuangyi edition). At times like these, I'm so grateful I'm Chinese ;)
It's been a month since auntie Grace went back and I've been getting dinner from Popo almost everyday and been doing much of the laundry. Quite difficult to juggle work and family and that's saying quite a bit, considering I'm only a temp. 's a bit of a relief that my contract will be termintating next friday. Have enjoyed my work overall despite some periods of major aggravation and frustration and multiple miscomms. Anyway, fortunately my replacement appears to be competent, will see when I return to work tomorrow. Jenny is as usual hilarious... Sometime ago she was wringing the mop out and sprained her back. But Jenny being Jenny insisted on mopping the rest of the floor since she was haldway done already and persisted on for the netx half an hour in spire of the pain... Silly girl. Anyway, that's not the clincher yet; subsequently she wanted to wash her legs but couldn't reach down due to the pain and had to raise her leg up instead. This would then cause her to slip backwards and fall on her back, aggravating the situation. Quite bad for someone her age. Fortunately she did not hit her head on the sink or something, especially since she lives on her own. Then two days later, she came to work and took time off to see the gynae who informed her that she was running a fever. Jenny as usual refused the MC and went on back to work. She said she didn't realise that she had a fever, just thought that the slight wooziness and the aching joints were due to the fall. Sigh. But Jenny has really proven to be an entertaining conversationalist. Especially when she regaled me with all the tales of how her good friends met their husbands. Each and everyone sounded like something out of a fairytale. Whirlwind romances, generous, chivalrous, rich young men+ distressed suicidal maiden. Though not all of them ended well, these real life stories were a whoop to hear. Will truly miss having Jenny and everyone at NUH MOT around when I leave. Must recount convo with Rachel soon.. The one about her multilingual Malaysian friend who looks like a 12 year old.
Kind of sad that will be leaving IGNYTE after this week. Am already whining about having to travel to PL every week when I live just next to Adam. Argh. But oh well. Anyway am still more worried about which Uni to choose though currently SMU seems to have a slight edge in my mental tally. And am still not making much headway on learning Jap. Am seriously considering taking formal lessons.
Hopefully I'll get down to talking about more substantial stuff. Someday. I do think about more substantial things you know... in my head. Anyway, TTFN.
