A List of Cages

by Robin Roe, 2017.

I don't know why I picked this book up--I think it was mostly a random choice at the library--but I'm glad I did. I'd had several "meh" books recently, and this one made up for those.

It's about two teenagers--one popular and successful, one struggling and with mental problems. The more successful teenager is assigned to help mentor the other one, and discovers they have a powerful connection. Can he rescue the other?

It wasn't just the plot that made the book interesting; it was the depiction of the characters and of teenage life. It rang true. The author is a counselor who works with at-risk teens; this is her first novel.

I recommended this book to my friend Sharon Louis, and while she hasn't read it yet, she's already recommended it to Jen Weber, too--I'm flattered that they trust my opinion, and seemed to like the description of the book as they read it online. In fact, I'm writing this right now because I couldn't renew it online--maybe this copy will be going to one of them!
