“A Quick Chat” (1/1)
by Lisa Michelle
Vala strutted over to Daniel who was seated on a crate against
the wall. “I’m so tired. Saving the world is very draining,” she
said as she sat down next to him. She looked over at Mitchell,
Sam, and Teal’c all huddled around Odai Ventrell. “What are
they doing?”
“Trying to get him to talk,” Daniel said.
“Well, they won’t get very far. He’s a pretty quiet guy.”
Vala crossed her legs. “So,” she said, slapping Daniel on the
thigh. “Another successful mission.”
“I don’t know if successful is the word I’d use,” he replied.
“Well, we caught the bad guy, didn’t we? I call that successful.
Are most of our missions successful or has the record gone up since
I’ve joined the team?” she asked.
“What?”
Vala touched her jaw. It was really starting to hurt now. Ventrell
must be stronger now. The last time she received a slap from him
it hadn’t hurt that much.
“What’s wrong?” he asked.
“Ventrell hit me,” she told Daniel. “I just hope it doesn’t
leave a bruise.”
“Let me see.”
She turned to face Daniel and he touched her cheek softly.
“No bruise yet. Are you okay?”
Vala wished Ventrell had hit her other places, so Daniel could
touch those as well. “Yes, I’m fine.”
Daniel took his hand away. “How’s it going with Mitchell?”
“Oh. His parents are nice. It had been boring until Ventrell
showed up,” she said. “First I thought he was here for me since
every man secretly desires me, bounty hunter or not, but -“
“You’ve annoyed Mitchell the whole time, haven’t you?”
“I think annoyed is a bit harsh, darling,” she replied, tossing
her hair back.
“Oh, I think not.”
Vala scooted back on the crate so her back hit the wall. She
lifted her legs and placed them on Daniel’s lap. “Rub my feet,
Daniel. These shoes are killing me.”
“No. I’m not rubbing your feet,” he replied. “Put your legs down.”
Daniel’s eyes raked over her long, shapely legs before they moved
up to the deep v-neckline of her little black dress.
“My feet are down there, not up here.” She twirled the string tie
that hung between her cleavage.
He quickly looked back down at her feet. “I wasn’t looking at
your -“
“Sure you weren’t,” she said. “Now that I know you like this
dress, I’ll wear it the next time we go out to dinner. It’s about time
we had a second date. This Saturday’s good for me. How about you?”
Mitchell walked over to Vala. “C’mon, we have to go.”
Vala sat back up, facing Mitchell. “Go where?”
“Back to the school,” Mitchell said.
“No we don’t. I’ll just beam back with Daniel,” she told him.
“No, you won’t. A team’s on its way there, but we need to go do
some damage control,” he said. “But let me do all the talking.”
“Oh, and we have to say good-bye to your parents,” she reminded
him, then turned to Daniel. “They like me.”
“They do?” Daniel said.
“It’s a long story,” Mitchell replied.
“I bet,” Daniel said.
“You just want to get back to Amy,” Vala said to Mitchell.
“Amy?” Daniel looked at Mitchell.
“His new girlfriend. She’s a blonde. I was a blonde once, but -“
Mitchell grabbed her arm and hauled her up from the crate.
They had only gone a few steps before she stopped. “Hey, wait.”
She pulled away from him.
“What now?”
“I have to say good-bye to Daniel.”
“We have to ring back down. Now,” he emphasized.
“I know. Just a second.” She turned around to see Daniel
walking towards Sam.
Vala bounced over to Daniel and gave him a big hug, stopping
him in mid-stride. She pulled away and noticed his glasses were
askew. “Sorry, darling,” she said, straightening them.
Mitchell pulled her away yet again, but she managed to yell
out a quick good-bye to Daniel.
