So, we had our roof repaired a few weeks ago. Or rather, we had it redone entirely as the insurance people didn't like it and the top two layers of shingles were completely falling apart. Sadly, the two layers below that were bright red and golden stone encrusted shingles that looked awesome but were destroyed by the garbage roofing done on top of them. *sigh* Anyway, during the roofing they "fixed" our skylight that we had done repairs to in order to stop leakage. In doing so, they basically opened a stream up that goes in to my living room. Taking care of that during the middle of downpours was fun -_-; I had to take the day off of work to repair it today, which leads in to part two of the "Day of Awesomeness (not)."
National Grid decided that since Troy had been so damaged in the last few storms, they'd just cut power to the city and surrounding areas today to stabilize the rest of their grid. This wouldn't have been too bad if they had given even the mayor at least some warning. Instead, we had a city full of accidents as no traffic lights worked. Thankfully, it didn't affect us until the later half of the day. When they decided to bring the city back online, it shuddered the system for a good few hours, giving us random black-outs and a general brown out for the length of it.
All this, and I don't get paid for today since I didn't go to work, making the large bill more annoying, with Otakon in less than 2 weeks... it will be tight. *sighs with annoyance* Ah well, the upside of being a temp... endless vacation days as long as you don't piss off your employer and keep getting your work done.
