Shove over, xxxHOLiC, I think I've found my most-favourite show of the current season.
Ironic since I didn't intend to watch
Kure-nai to begin witch, and only picked it up because
BSS subbed it and they supply IRC distro and direct download links (v. convenient for me!). And then it got me in the first five minutes.
I just realised the main character reminds me of Allen Walker. Not sure if this is good or bad. But either way it is awesome.
At any rate: Shinkurou Kurenai, boy with traumatic past (read: nightmares and horror, but no real emo) and mysterious bodily problems (read: random stabbing pains and something possibly trying to tear out of his elbow) works as a "dispute mediator" (read: beats people up). He's hired to guard the 7-year-old Kuhouin Murasaki, runaway from a very important and rich family with some strange family customs. Hijinks ensue.
At this point 2 episodes in there's already quite a large cast introduced, with quite a few questions open. It appears that nobody's quite as simple as they appear, from the main character with the mysterious past to his lovely, stern-but-caring boss to his classmates and co-workers and even Murasaki's stern-but-hiding-something father. Interesting things galore, I love this show, oh dear.
Exams will be over in a week and a day. Yay! Freedom to fangirl.
Forgot to add--the art director and animation character designer are the same people as worked on Red Garden, though the animation studio is different. I had suspicions, given the opening, and pegged it as "Red Garden team work" upon watching the first episode--and I was right! The resemblance is VERY obvious, and the animation, as far as I can tell, looks very nice. Shiny show is shiny. Happy llyse is happy.
