I had a bunch of things I wanted to get done this weekend, but none of them seemed to happen, save my long run.

Yesterday was gorgeous out- 64 and sunny. Windy, though, but still gorgeous. Toby had a birthday party to go to, but it was a drop and go, so I took him over and then took Trevor out for some errands and some ice cream. The errands (getting a new water bottle for my fuel belt and a quick stop at the grocery store) weren't his favorite, but vanilla ice cream with M&Ms, chocolate chips, and whipped cream was deemed acceptable compensation. When we got home, we picked up Toby and then played outside for two hours or so with the girls two doors down. Well, the three year old tagged along, but the older girl is one of Trevor's very best friends. She's a really nice kid and I really like the parents, so they had a good time until everyone got tired and there were meltdowns. Then my FIL came over, and Toby was just a bear. Like, miserable. I started to suspect something was off, but didn't think much of it.

This morning he was fine in the morning. He wrote a story at home and at church for his Cub Scout requirement, about Eagle Scouts colonizing a new planet. At the last moment he decided to have a twist ending, and the new Eagle Scouts were the aliens and the new planet was Earth. He did not appreciate me cracking up (which I understand), but he basically wrote the ending of BSG there. It was adorable. He was fine through church, but when we got home, he just crashed hard and said his throat hurt. I left him with Howard and went out for my run, and when I came back 4 hours later, you could tell he was not at the top of his game. And as the Advil Howard gave him wore off, his temperature went up and he felt worse and worse. He has a sore throat, headache, and terrible breath, and an unmedicated fever of 102.5. (The medicine brings it down nicely.) I'm thinking we're going to the doctor tomorrow. Hoping he sleeps through the night.

I did get my run in, which took a little longer than I wanted. Part of that was I needed to make a bathroom detour, but also I'm going slower than I was this fall. But it wasn't as bad as last time, so that's good. Now I'm tired, but I'm not sure how well I'll sleep tonight.

Found out something VERY annoying about our elementary school the other day. We've had a program called K+, that identifies six kids at the bottom of the kindergarten, who are really struggling, and puts them in an all-day program where they work in a much smaller group. (Although damn, that sucks for kid #7.) It's a good program, and one of my friends had her son go through it and saw huge improvement. My mom used to do something similar, called Reading Recovery, which was a first grade program. When she switched to the classroom she taught 5th grade and had kids she'd had in Reading Recovery who were still in the middle or high reading group, because the program helped them so much. Anyway, this program was a good thing. Well, our school got ranked too high in student scores, so guess what? Funding got cut. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? How do you think they got those high scores? By helping students who are struggling! UGH. Those who can, teach, those who can't, make laws about teaching :P

Sorry this post is not terribly interesting, but I guess I did not have a terribly interesting weekend. Thanks to anyone who read through :)
