First weekend of the new year, and I feel lazy :) Well, I did make breakfast today (chocolate chip pancakes and bacon- always a hit!), but so far I've done nothing else. I know I should get off the couch and go work out, because I want to take the kids to Target and Kohl's. (Toby needs new shoes AGAIN.)
I've been trying to get writing, too. I finally said "screw world building" with Adamaey Rising and just started writing. I haven't gotten very far yet, but it might be the right thing to do. I mean, I have a timeline in my head and a lot of setup, but I think I'm getting into paralysis via research, and maybe what I need to do is write for a while and then really figure out what else I need to learn. So that's good. I also made a bit of a break-through with my crossover exchange fic. I love the plot idea for it, but when I tried writing it, it just wasn't working. I could not get the damn fic to move, because it started out with everyone introducing themselves, and how boring is that? But then I scrapped it and switched the POV to a different character, and yeah, that was exactly what was wrong. I got 3,000 words done yesterday, although I think this one's going to be a long one. Which is a bit of a bummer, because there was a second fic I wanted to write for my recipient. I still might do it after if I can't get it done before. (The second one would be short and I find both voices hard-ish to do, whereas the first fic is a perfect match for me and right up my alley.) Plus, I got another scene done on BSGlee. Yay!
I've been rewatching Avatar during my indoor workouts, and I just rewatched Jet. That's got to be one of my favorite episodes in the first book, and probably in my top ten. I know a lot of people aren't crazy about it, but it's me and it's Tom Zarek as a teenager. It makes me seriously want a crossover where Gaeta and Zarek leave the Fleet instead of being executed and find the world of Avatar and Zarek meets Jet and they sit around and talk about freedom and the price that has to be paid and how they can be martyrs, and Felix and Zuko scowl in the background. Felix and Zarek in Ba Sing Se... I need help. I don't think I'd ever write this crossover (I think I have enough of them on my plate), but damn, I want to read it. However, as much as I am loving Water, I am eager to get to Earth. Because the group feels very, very incomplete to me without Toph. Toph is one of the best examples ever of a new character fitting in, because when I go back and watch the stuff without her, I really miss her.
I also started reading Les Miserables last night. My husband has the full, unabridged version in paperback, which means I can read it in the bathtub. And yeah, I am remembering why I have trouble with Hugo. 25 pages in and we're STILL talking about the bishop. Hugo's style flows nicely and it is rich and detailed, but I got the point that the Bishop is a very good man about 15 pages ago. (Okay, so I got it even before that, but I get wanting to add more detail to make the reader feel like they're really there and they know this guy.) But I do love the story of Valjean and Javert, so I look forward to getting that far.
Okay. Must get off the couch and be productive. Have a great day!
