BSG: Someone To Watch Over Me

Feb 27, 2009 23:08

I find myself in a weird place. Did I like this episode? Well, it was nowhere near as offensive as last week's claptrap, that much I can say. The truth is I did like this episode, but I would have liked it much better as a mid-season episode (or hell, even last week's episode) than as four from the end. The Tyrol/Boomer stuff was AWESOME. (Talk about everything people want in the worst way. I'm not a Tyrol/Boomer shipper much, but OUCH, and I loved it.) The Starbuck stuff was touching and moving, but really, what did we find out?

1.) Starbuck is depressed, and rightfully so.
2.) Starbuck knew how to play the piano, too.
3.) Starbuck has daddy issues, which we pretty much knew already.
4.) Starbuck knows "All Along the Watchtower."

That's it. I thought it was well done, but frankly I'm much more interested in finding out how she showed back up on Galactica in a shiny new Viper than I am about her music and Daddy issues.

Someone called it that the piano man was a head character. Heh.

Random thoughts:

1.) Chief sort of pissed me off this week. You're arguing against the death penalty? (Actually, you're arguing against a trial?) Where were you during Blood on the Scales? Why is it okay to execute Tom and Felix, but not Boomer? If you're going to object on a moral grounds, you have to do it for everyone, not just the hot chick you slept with. (I SO wanted Adama to say that.) And I was very, very pleased that Roslin basically said "frak you" and was going to send Boomer to trial anyway. At least that's consistent.

2.) The real star of this episode? Bear McCreary. Still can't believe he's only THIRTY. That made me feel old and unaccomplished.

3.) Hee. "Slick" there was Mike from Days of Our Lives. I used to watch that like my second year of grad school. I didn't know what fanficcing or shipping was, but Mike/Carrie was totally my OTP of DooL. He's aged pretty well.

4.) I really, really, really want Felix's picture to be on that damn wall. Tom's, too, but Tom isn't a Galactian.

5.) I know he's not my favorite character, but could we actually get some Lee action? Or evidence he exists? Same with any other humans?

6.) Hera's kidnapping. On the one hand, how many times can we kidnap the poor Poptart? On the other... ::SNIFFLE:: Athena broke my heart, especially as she was whacking Helo for sleeping with Boomer.

You know, everything we thought was crazy on that frak chart has come true except for two things: 1.) They messed up Baltar's follower that he slept with, and 2.) the Gaeta-Caprica link. I still think that's webisodes, especially since it sounds like the webisodes were meant to be shot during the finale, but a teeny, tiny part of me goes "Daniel?" But I doubt that.

In a sad case of irony, a real life Amber Alert came on during the show around here. I could have done without that.

7.) IF WE MUST HAVE KFC COMMERCIALS EVERY BREAK, MAKE THEM DIFFERENT AND DON'T PUT TWO KFC COMMERCIALS IN THE SAME DAMN BREAK! HONESTLY! IT'S WORSE THAN THOSE DAMN LYCANS!

8.) It did hurt a little to see Hoshi in Gaeta's position. I'm really curious as to the role he's going to play. I was hoping we'd get some insight to it tonight, but figured we wouldn't because I already knew it was a Starbuck-Boomer episode. But it sounds like he might have something vaguely significant to do in the end, and that the Gaeta/Hoshi relationship adds an extra layer to it.

9.) The All Along the Watchtower reveal seriously was cool, even if it is pointing to Kara being the first hybrid. (Which, please no.)

10.) Seriously. Enough with the KFC commercials already.

Oh, also? I tried to read the TWoP recap of Deadlock. FORGET IT. I got to the part where he said that Cap Six killed the baby to "spare it" and it was an "act of compassion" and clicked away in UTTER DISGUST.

Look, I'm a mom, okay? And that was NOT an act of compassion. It was an act of cruelty. If I knew that this town was going to be nuked and there was nothing I could do it stop it, I want my kids and my husband right there next to me. I want my babies in my arms. I want their last thought and their last sight on Earth to be one of love, and I would want them to die knowing just how much they were loved, with our arms around them. And selfishly, if all four of us were going to die and there was no stopping it, I would want my babies in my arms.

I rarely say this about people, especially ones I don't know, but what an asshole. That scene is one of the most despicable (but well done in terms of setting the tone) in the series to me.

I'm gonna go hug my boys now.
