[for Bran]This...is not going to go well.

Mar 31, 2007 21:45

Will turns in his sleep as the sun starts to penetrate the walls of his shelter, illuminating the room in shadowed stripes. He snuggles against Bran's back, absently tugging a bit of hair out of his mouth. Still more asleep than awake, his brow furrows; something feels just a bit off, a degree or two south of normal, or something. He just hasn't ( Read more... )

Bran stirs, snuggling Will closer against him, lips brushing across the back of his head. "Bore da, cariad," he murmurs sleepily, his eyes still closed, sliding a hand down Will's front.

...Waaaaaaait a second. Bran pushes himself up on his elbow and peers down at Will.

At least, he's really quite certain it was Will when he went to sleep last night.

He doesn't remember being drunk, or on any psychoactive drugs.

He cannot think of any logical reason why he would wake up, mostly naked, with River Tam.

"Morning," Will murmurs, then stills, his eyes fluttering open. That wasn't his voice. Oh, not again.

He sits up slowly, looking down at his new breasts with a soft whimper. "Bloody hell," he--well, she--whispers, then scrabbles for his discarded pyjama top, clutching it to her chest as she looks at Bran, distressed.

Bran, looking confused and even a little worried, very carefully does not look at her chest and asks hesitantly:

"...River?"

Will shakes her head, looking like she's about to cry. "M'not...do I look like River?" This doesn't feel the same as when he'd woken up in someone else's body--and she's still in the same place he'd gone to sleep.

"It's me, Bran." She sniffles, lip trembling. "Oh god, I'm a girl."

"Will?" It's not that Bran doesn't believe it, it's just a surprise. But there she is, with her lip wobbling and looking as if she's about to cry, and really, even if it were River, Bran would still do what he does next, which is wrap the blanket around her shoulders and pull her close. "Are you all right?"

Will nestles against him, shaking her head again. "M'not all right, I've got breasts and I'm afraid to even look inside my pyjama bottoms and..." She whimpers again and buries her face against Bran's shoulder, reminding himself that these things usually only last a couple of days.

Though the snow had lasted a month. "Please, don't let this be like the snow," she whispers, not realising the words are spoken aloud.

"It wasn't last time," Bran says comfortingly, kissing the top of Will's head again. "When Jake and James and all those people changed. It was a few days, and this will be too."

Will nods, still feeling miserable. "You'll stay with me?" she asks quietly, feeling extremely vulnerable, and still rather like bursting into tears.

"Of course I will," Bran says, ignoring the slightly disconcerting sense of deja vu. "I love you, you're my Will. Whatever your body looks like." He adjusts the blanket around Will's shoulder and kisses her cheek. "We probably ought to get you a shirt, at least."

Will nods, sighing softly. "D'you think I need a..." She glances down, gingerly peeling the blanket away to peer at the new breasts, cheeks pink. "Well. I mean, is a shirt enough?"

Bran is not actually sure if he's supposed to look. It's Will, but it still looks like River. "...I have no idea," he says, "but it's probably at least a good thing to start with?"

"Yeah, all right." Will looks at Bran and sighs softly, wanting kisses and comfort, but--he can't ask Bran to do that. He remembers what it felt like to be on the other side of that.

She pulls away and gets to her feet, pulling the pyjama top on with her back to Bran. It's something to cover her, although she'll feel silly walking to the compound in pyjamas. "Right. I s'pose we should get me something to wear, then."

Ah, but Bran's had...well, practise, he supposes, at being supportive through this particular strange circumstance and a whole host of others. "I think you can wear your own things, if you want to," he offers, pulling the tearful Will into his arms and hugging him hard. "Girls always look cute in boys' things."

Will shrugs, resting her head against Bran's shoulder. "You don't think I should...wear a sundress or something?" It just seems right, although this thought is something Will doesn't care to dwell on overmuch.

"I think," Bran says gently, "you should wear whatever you'll be most comfortable in. It's still your body, you ought to feel at home in it." Even if it doesn't look like Will's body. Even if it looks like a girl Bran thinks may be the prettiest on the island. Or perhaps especially because of that.

Will looks down at the boy's pyjamas hanging loosely on her now rather petite frame, then at Bran, biting her lip. "...Let's just see what the clothes box has, yeah?"
