So for the past 5 years or so my dad's been working for a small start-up company, always with the intention of selling it off. They've finally closed a deal with McAfee, and his plan was retirement, effective this coming Tuesday. However, the buyers want him to stay on and have offered him 2 jobs. One of which is boring. The other is the position of representative to Asia, Australia, and South America. This means that, if he accepts, he will spend 40% of his time travelling in these areas, effective this Tuesday. And I desperately want him to take the job, not only because it will keep him from driving us nuts in his first summer of retirement, but also because then I might be able to tag along on some of those trips. I haven't been this excited about his job prospects (honestly, I'm never really sure what he even does) since they led us to Florida. Sure, I'm working full time, and then there will be school, but I can take some time off (I'm just an intern after all), and there will be October, Winter, and Spring breaks...
But I'm getting carried away in the fantasy of easyish access to foreign places. I should just assume that he'll move forward with retirement.
The thing that gets me is that this is my dream job, getting paid to travel, but there's no way I'm willing to spend 40 years in business and 12 hour work days to get there. I need to find another way...
