United 93 is the worst premise for a movie ever. My mom and I just watched it and I was disgusted. There is no reason to relive what happened. Especially not so soon after. Its only been 5 years people. Please take my advice and never see that movie.

I agree with you about. I really don't want to see that movie for the same reasons.
But I wonder: people probably thought that about things like Pearl Harbor and now it's just a Ben Affleck movie. Just as big of an American tragedy, but living through it makes the difference between being an entertaining tragedy and a sick to your stomach tragedy.

I was thinking the same thing about Pearl Harbor, but they waited like 50 years before even considering making that movie, so it was more of a memory than a reality. Plus, Pearl Harbor had more to it than United 93. They didn't have much to base this movie one. Everyone on that plane died and all they have is the black box thing and the phone calls that they made during the flight. Therefore, even from a cinematic point of view, the movie was very slow and disappointing.

Disaster means mega-profits for the film industry because people need to experience things that they weren't directly involved in. The most popular film genre during and right after WW-II? War films. Same with Vietnam (though most of these were anti-war war films). United 93 is tasteless and tacky, but it's going to sell because people want to empathize, and movies like this move people to the ignorant type of patriotism that justifies what we're doing in the Middle East. You'd be surprised how much influence the government has in our film industry even today.
