Frivolities, Festivities, Holidays and the like....

I sit in a friend's house, a bit chilly, as he has been away for a few days, waiting for the heater to warm up the air. He's out shoveling more snow...something which seems to have become the winter past time for us in the UP North recently. Over we weekend we were gifted with an early Holiday gift of an additional 14.5 inches of the white stuff. It was, indeed, good Christmas Snow, perfect for making snow angels, should one have any desire after spending what seemed like endless hours and multiple attempts to shovel the stuff out. Thank Ghu for snow throwers!!

Yesterday/today has been a bit of a different Christmas for me. I wasn't able to be with my family, because distance and work schedules made impossible to drive there or them here, unless someone wanted to be on the road all Christmas day. This year holiday spirit was somewhat lacking for me. Things were pretty low key.. fewer decorations.. and those being more seasonal than attuned to the holiday itself. The recurring theme was snow people. That way I can leave them up after all the holiday regalia is down and packed away for another year.

This year the "feeling" came upon me very slowly, very gradually, but it finally DID come.. something I was afraid was not to happen this year. The main reason, I believe, is the presence of a "family" member.. someone who is family in my heart but not of my blood. That made this holiday special.. to have him with me. I thank him for the ultimate gift.. that of himself and his time, for I know that he was very aware of how difficult this holiday was. I am hopeful that his holiday was a bit special as well for having shared time/space with me during it.

Now, the heat has kicked on enough to make it comfortable here and the shoveling is done, for at least the time being, so I will make this post short... and end with my wishes for all who read this.. A warm and wonderful Holiday and a New Year filled with all good things..
