Adventures with the Tennis Club

Mar 22, 2009 20:30

So Friday was a national holiday, which means day off for me.  Instead, I ended up heading over to school anyway-to practice with the tennis club.  First off, I'm terrible at tennis. Put me against a blind two year old, and I will lose like it's no one's business.  Anyway, it was kind of grey and gross out, so things ended early with my ichinen girls.  I've gathered my stuff and I'm about to leave, when I'm stopped at the door by Aika, Shoko, Chikako, and Tsubana-four of the tennis club members who stopped to perform the traditional ALT grilling from their textbooks (I was so proud they remembered all the questions they had learned throughout the year), along with trying to set me up with the soccer coach.  So general Japanese JHS kid behavior, right?

Afterwards, they insisted on going with me to the local grocery store, but we took the back roads for one reason-they wanted to show me their Yosano, where their friends lived, where the cram schools are and where all the kids hang out after school is finally over.  I got to see Yosano through my kids' eyes, and while I know I won't be hanging around that area much, I know what's there (and picked up the school gossip along the way.)  Granted, now they all know where I live.

I think I like tennis club.

It's finally getting warmer, and I've had a solid week when it comes to running. My ass and legs hate me right now, but it's a good kind of hate.  I've been ready for spring for months.

And now to figure out what color to do the mochi-flashcard procrastination go!

my kids!
